hay...okay....sooooo it's my stage 1 exams next week and well i've missed out on heaps of the work :S
....supposidly in english we were doing 'As you like it' by shakespeare and for the exam we have to do an essay on belonging in which we have to discuss the play and a related text and how they relate (well that's what I'm guessing)...so i was just wondering....for a related text would it be worthwhile doing 'Big Fish' by tim burton??
and if so
should I connect each character with another ? like Connect rosalind with a charcter from big fish?
or
just say how the story line is similar , in the way they both depict the protagonists venturing out into the wild to seek a sense of belonging? and use examples
or
should i do all of it??
:p

MaN i'm completely confused aye!....I dunno how im gonna link anything with shakespeare....I don't understand the guy!!

Any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Our school does Romulus, My Father.

It's pretty average, kinda hard to find good techniques because the language is so plain.

AHHHHH yes AYLI is horrid....and really it's not about belonging, it's about several ill-matched couples falling in love and getting married in the end by some greek/roman god of fertility or something :(

why do schools want to make our lives so difficult! haha

OMG!! i just read the synopsis of Big fish >.> i've gotta find another related text ....ekkkkkk....

actually, there is a fuckload of belonging in AYLI. there are many types. here are a couple of main ones

  • relationships [romantic, familial, friendship, etc] - engenders allegiances = belonging.
  • places - the pastoral vs the court - how there are concomitant duties when belonging to these places and how the characters navigate their connections when they are displaced.
  • etc.
use your related text to complement the ideas you have found in the core text, but when you're using multiple rm chances are you'll only need about three techniques max [and that's pushing it]. so don't go overboard, yeah?
