a friend of mine earns $45 an hour and works about 50-65 hours a week, just graduated (been working for last 4 years at the same place tho)

seems like decent money.

no i dont think he is

our pharmacists get paid $44

$55 saturdays

$88 sundays (sounds good to me)
despite how boring it is, this has changed my view on doing pharmacy...im not usually money minded but thats just easy money!

Actually you are way off. It IS the pharmacists that need to know which drugs can't be given together. The pharmacists are the drug specialists NOT the doctors. The pharmacists also know MUCH more about how the drugs work than doctors. It would be impossible for med school to cover the entire body AND all the drug treatments and that's where pharmacists come in.
true

doctors dont know much bout drugs compared to pharmacists

aviation different though, specialisation compared to civil or computer... of course they all are specialisations however aviation is the wrong specialisation for Australia considering we do not build aircrafts... we dont produce computers either but you can see how the demand is there when you think of how technology is all around us, same with civil... aircraft and rockets not so much

back in my high school days, i used to think they prepare doses and courses of drugs for people. but definitely not the case, they are the physicians' bitches pretty much. the physicians prescribe the drugs, the pharmacists gets it and gives it to the patient and processes the payment. i really dont understand y u need to do a 4 year degree to learn how to take a drug from the shelf and give it to some1. its not like they need to understand how the drug works, which diseases the drugs treat or which drugs cant be given together etc. its the doctors who do that. doctors are the kings/queens, pharmacists are the pawns.
EDIT: bishops, knights, rooks are ppl like nurses, physiotherapists, optometrists etc
You will thank us one day when you get a phone call that will save your a$$.

ohhhhhhh, u went to med school right? well, i have no idea which one u went to because all med schools have a topic called "pharmacology".

Judging by his post, I think he'll be getting several phone calls :uhhuh:
lol. this is just going to a thread full of the millions of pharmacy students trying to promote their course and hide their insecurities.

It's better than the research alternative I promise you:
I don't care how tough you think pharmacy hours are, research is longer and harder, 8am - 10pm days aren't uncommon and that is 10 - 14 hours of constant calculations, performing experiments, analyzing data etc.
I'd much prefer to be bored because the pharmacy is quiet, then stressed as hell because the experiment I've been planning for the last month has failed completely and just cost me $5k in grant money down the drain; meaning I'm now not going to get any sleep as I try to catch up and redo the experiment.
And unless you've completed your PhD +post doc1 + post doc2 (~11-12 years minimum), don't expect any more than $60k a year for it....

I'd kill to right now be in a $65k / year, mon-fri 9-5pm job that allowed me to go to the gym, eat 6 square meals a day and see some sunlight, rather than the hell I'm going through atm.

Even more annoying is having the GAMSAT + GPA to walk into Usyd med, but only 3 years of government fee help left... FML.

I'm aware of how much pharmacology is taught in med schools for I have many friends graduated from med.You just learn basics in med school and I don't mean that as an insult. Nobody has any reason to promote their faculty. If I were you I'd focus on your studies as you have a looong way to go before you're anybody: getting the med. degree is only a small step in the learning process you'll see.

umm sweeping statement much? there are LOTS of jobs in engineering, depending on the stream. of course you aren't going to find jobs in streams like aviation, maritime, etc.

Go hang out in your local pharmacy one day and watch what the pharmacist does:

- hardly any actual human interaction except with the pharmacy assistants
- all the time spent on their feet

I've had an opportunity to hang out in the oncology pharmacy at one of Sydney's major hospitals - that place is tiny, no sitting down, frantic work pace, frazzled pharmacist.

Not something that I would recommend - particularly with all the training that's required to get there.
