yeah pretty much
ambulance cover is like $150/yr for families in vic

logic would suggest that people with a high risk for any acute condition requiring emergency ambulatory care would maybe invest in cover, especially if the issue of cost would impede their decision to call one in a life-threatening situation

so if you don't want to do that
then save some money for emergencies
derp

edit; qualification threshold for the low income health care card is 1500 for families and 850 for singles fortnightly

You may be eligible for a Low Income Health Care Card if you are either:

  • a student or Australian Apprentice and get any of these payments:
    • ABSTUDY
    • Austudy
    • Carer Payment (child) for short-term or episodic care under 6 months
    • Youth Allowance (student)
  • a foster carer
  • have a low income
Low Income Health Care Card

and max weekly income for singles is $459
then there's a 25% leeway to keep it, so $573.75 once you've qualified

okay you guys decide on this. I think he is an idiot.

So my dad had a heart attack while playing soccer. Instead of calling an ambulance at the soccer field he drives home. He can't lift his arms very high and was having trouble driving so the only way he could hold on to the wheel apparently was by putting his arms crossed over the wheel (like this: X). Anywho barges into the house takes an aspirin. Tells me "get ready to call the ambulance, I think I'm having a heart attack."
I'm like :O
Anywho call the ambulance and when they arrive....wait I cant remember if it was the ambos or in the hospital someone says that aspirin probably saved his life.
So now he boasts about it.

i had no idea that ambulances actually did charge people. what the fuck? we offer healthcare to everyone so that, you know, when you're dying you're supported by your brethren in the community - and this isn't extended into ambulance cover? absurd.
