Good luck.

I've been looking for 18 months and have had two replies.

It's almost hopeless in some places.

apply for whoever is hiring, dw about how much they'll pay you. you have zero experience so dont expect much (look at it from your employers perspective).

Agreed. Grab what you can, get some experience, and then get picky. Future employers know this and will look at any work experience you have even if it may not seem that relevant to your future career path.

Try looking at the less obvious jobs for people our age such as data entry, imaging, call centres, etc... see what is flexible and meets your free time availability.

ps. if you are not a local, keep in mind visa requirements for students may not permit you to work much.

Jobs are so hard to find these days, if only there were enough for everyone. The people we should really blame are the damn yanks, their country caused the whole recession thing and we students end up bearing the brunt of it.

For a first job, if you've tried to apply to all those and failed.. is to apply for a job directly face to face for something small.

I remember my first job was at a food court. They had a hiring sign, I walked up, talked and asked.. and they told me to start the next day. Being an overseas student [for you], your strong point would be your ability to speak another language. Work with this.

Then my 2nd job was as a waitress at Kobe Jones. Also just walked up and got hired on the spot. Then I started up building experience and communication skills, etc.. my previous studies in Japanese also helped me here as I could communicate in 3 languages and seriously the ability to communicate [to your managers and the people you are serving] and be bubbly is very important.

Don't worry where your first job is, or how the pay is. Experience is what you're aiming to get before you expand into something you prefer.

William, you're a dud - please shut up.

To the OP, go to a KFC joint and ask for a job, chances are your uncle is the manager there.

Agreed. Maybe the OP should try talking less like a 12 yr old trying to flirt over MSN.

just wait until ur entitled to centerlink benefits
Because it's the duty of Australian tax payers to support foreign kids who come here to buy an education. It's bad enough that we local students have to compete with them for the meagre availability of part-time work.

Seriously, if you're an international student, why are you even here if your family can't afford it? Which is clearly the case as you sound desperate for $$$.

Back to the topic - Easyway seems to always be hiring, and they roster lots of students for p/t work. Their pay is terrible though.

there are people who are 25 and they dont have a job. you're not the only one who's worried about unemployment.

If you've got your licence pizza places like Dominos and Eagle Boys are always looking for delivery drivers. Apparently its not the best job but like everyone's been saying, you really need to take what you can get. In the end they will pick the 13 year old over you because they need to pay you $10/hour more and you've both got the same experience.
