Hello all,

I was absolutely shocked to learn that our school does not have Preliminary half yearlies. Can they do this? Our teachers' excuses were "we couldn't be bothered making an exam." Does your school have Preliminary HYs or am I overreacting? They are like grinches taking our beloved exams away from us.

The schools can set up the assessments however they like. It all has to add up to 100% in the end so they can put in assignments, even set homework that goes towards your final year mark.

If your school doesn't do that, your prelim final is going to be pretty vital.

Yeah, it's prelim and basically totally up to the school what to assess.

I had half yearlies, but they weren't truly half yearlies (too early on to be half of course, more like an extended topic test or topic/general knowlede in each subject)

I have half yearlies. Wish I didn't.
MX1= 100% weighting for HY.
Can they do that?
What! That's not fair, one mark shouldn't make up for your whole performance nor give any indication.

^Well it was half yearly length and duration, but not really half way through the year and it didn't cover half of the syllabus? (We'd done two topics in most subject).

My school usually don't have HYs, but this year it was introduced and they think it's pointless, LOL.

I'm sure you will have an assesment this term to make up for it. Feel better?

I've done my HY's already. Felt more like a topic test as we haven't learnt that much yet.
