I will, hopefully, be attending USYD or UNSW next year in Engineering (flexible year - only because I don't know what I want to do). I have many questions:

1. Which Uni is better for engineering?? I was hoping to get into USYD because it's more prestigious and has a famous history. But UNSW doesn't look too bad, in fact the ATAR cut off is much lower (not for flexible year, for overall) than Usyd. They also advertised it better in their booklets.

2. I am Permanent resident and will be sitting my Citizenship test in December. Hypothetically speaking, say I did not get my citizenship before I go to uni. Does that mean I have to pay the full Uni fee and unable to apply for Hecs once I enter the uni premise? Can I apply for hecs after I have enrolled into uni?

3. When do I apply for universities and how many unis do I have to choose??

1. General consensus is UNSW.

2. Permanent residence qualifies for HECS but you have to pay it upfront, without having the option of deferring it.

3. 30/9/2011, 9 uni courses

In addition UNSW is quite renowned for commerce, economics and etc. USyd is prestigious in other areas such as law.

2. What do I "pay" if I can qualify for hecs??

3. What do I pick when I only have the "flexible year" in mind... I am also considering a double degree but I have no idea what I want to do as my second course..

Is it disadvantageous to go to USYD's engineering course rather than UNSW ?? I don't get why UNSW is the 'king' of engineering..

2. Check the undergrad booklets or the websites. Each area is sorted into different bands/pricing ranges. Tbh, cbf explaining it all. You'll be informed closer to the cutoff date.

3. Check the UAC code

No, it shouldn't matter. It is really the same course, choose in terms of what the Uni can offer you such as lifestyle, transport, location, friends and etc.

Also heard from my tutor that it is more free in UNSW in terms of the lectures. If you miss a lecture, they post it on the website for you whilst in USYD, you miss a lecture then there is no way of listening to it again.

Conversely, ask your careers advisor to answer your q's.

Looks like hogwarts. It's magically mesmerising and I want to study there.. But the atar cut off for different engineerings are so weird.. Whereby, the UNSW one is pretty consistent of 91 ATAR

Civil Engineering with Architecture looks like an awesome course.

UNSW is better, period. There's a reason there's like 12 buildings for engineering at UNSW.

haha hogwarts :p
I'm not a fan of Harry Potter and I like modern buildings a lot better, so I guess UNSW for me :L

it ultimately depends on you however
