Further breakdown:
Muse are rather uninspired. They've taken the generic alternative sound, added an anthem feel, and sold it to cater for a mass audience. While I'll give them credit for their second and third album, the rest just seems to be rather bland. It's catchy at times, and it's easy to see why they've done well, but it just doesn't sit right.
Radiohead have taken the grunge sensibility from the early 90's and have consistently played with it, added rock and pop influences, and as of recent, electronic as well. Thom Yorke is heralded as one of the great songwriters of the last few years, and with the depth evoked it's easier to see why.
