Oh really? So it all varies depending on the person? Oh this is all new to me. i feel so ignorant for not knowing all this and my parents got angry to me for being so clueless. I just assumed i would sail smoothly towards uni but we need to make our own timetables etc. :L

But another question, we can do say 100 level units until our later years, however it would serve as a detriment because some of these units are prerequisites for more advanced units right? So it is best to get it over and done with?
Dont worry mate, i was the same when enrolling in my first year.

This is true ideally you would like to get through all your 100 level units to satisfy the prequisities, but in some cases, for example a friend of mine who is majoring in marketing for example didnt want to do ACST101 unit later as she wasnt comfortable with maths, and did not need ACST101 as a prequisite for her marketing major so she completed this subject in the third yr.

Omg sorry for my never ending questions! Ok I see that but you said you did:
BBA102: Principles of Management
ACST101: Techniques and Elements of Finance

But isn't that still law as it is still located on the Law page as opposed to the commerce majors (in your case accounting) page?
Its ok mate, keeping me busy while im at work, been a slow day today haha. No those units are commerce units, remmeber your combined degree is commerce/law, you still need to do core commerce units, such as management and finance before doing your area of specialisation.

Wait so Ameher,

You didn't really do much of your Accounting major in the first year. I see what you did. did you just complete your 100 level units during first year and Accounting B?

Correct. And i couldnt really do much other units, such as ACCG200, until i had done both Accounting 1A and Accounting 1B.

OHHH ok its all finally coming together for me! :D I get it. So those are the only core Commerce subjects in first year? and your specialisation is your major which most people start doing during 2nd year?

Yep. So your core commerce subjects are ACST101, BBA102, ECON111, MKTG101 and ACCG100 or 106. And yep the major is what you generally start doing in your second year.

No difference, at uni 'subjects' are called units.

essentially two ways of saying the same thing. So for example, some people say they did the subject ACST101, or they could say i did the unit ACST101, two ways to say the same thing.

hey I'm back!...lol

Um just wondering If I choose a Finance major in my commerce degree, will I be able to change my major in my 2nd year if I wish to do so?

considering major study generally begins during 2nd year (and that I'm doing a combined degree with law)

Have you seen this page? http://www.student.mq.edu.au/enrol/undergrad.htm#step1
It takes you through what you need to be doing to prepare for enrolment.

And no worries, i'm sick at home today so it's nice to feel useful.

Oh yes I seen that page! I've actually already finished step 1. Then step 2 came and started asking me about majors and such which lead me to think "hey, I don't even know what major I'm choosing let alone my timetable for all my subjects" LOL and now I'm here haha

Yep you can change it in your 2nd year if you choose to do so. Thats why when you do the core commerce subjects in the first yr you get a feel of the different majors through the first yr units, however accounting for example in first yr isnt indicative to second and 3rd yr since it gets much better.

Yeah I'm leaning towards Accounting as my major. However, I know finance is good too! But Economics was my lowest subject in the HSC and I heard finance is linked strongly with Economics? --"

How is accounting like? Does it involve simple mathematics? If so I'm ok with that. I never ever ever want to see Extension maths related stuff lol

Yep its simple mathematics, its pretty interesting stuff, alot of understanding regarding business strategy, and business planning. But yer, really dependent on what career path you want to go down in the future. I chose accounting cause i loved learning about business strategy, management and budgeting, but yes the MQ accounting school is one of the largest in Aus, and has great lecturers.
