Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon

you're not the only one, it does that for all, however, how do robots gain weight by means of human food?
I thought eating metal would make you gain weight

I eat nuts and bolts and humans.

I better go study or clown will eat me, I will revisit the conics question I posted up, I think it's incorrect.

Post more questions, when I get back tomorrow I shall be having fun on BOS...

your conics question is not entirely wrong, the m<0 condition restricts point of contact to quad1 only, so if you lift that conditon the question is fine

Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon

I don't want to spoil the party but...

Any chance we could have questions more orientated towards a regular MX2 student, or a little harder, but something that most should at least be able to attempt. A lot of people would probably be scared off, especially since you guys are into or out of uni maths already!
Yeah that's probably a good idea. This one is for people who are doing their HSC, and not done it already,

Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon

Okay, I cant use latex so I have to explain it. Basically I let the primitive functions of f(x) and f(a-x) be F(x) and F(a-x) respectively. Then I evaluate them as one would usually and I get F(a)-F(0) and F(0)-F(a).

Well the way I would do it is the way kingkong123 did, except show LHS = RHS, not RHS = LHS.

But what I cant understand is why both of methods seem valid and yet they are mutually exclusive.

well RHS gives you something to work with, you wouldn't know what to do if you started from LHS.

lolcakes, the if F(x) is the primitive of f(x) then -F(a-x) is the primitive of f(a-x)

You can like, do that integration thing just by considering the geometry of it right; like sending x -> a-x is the same as reflecting the graph about the line x = a/2, so the area under the curve between 0 and a is preserved

You really like your geometry.

Analysis ftw.

Never thought of it as geometry, I'm not really a geometry person :p
