How badly will doing standard English affect my ATAR? :( (1 Viewer)

Hi, I'm doing 3u math, 1u SOR, ancient history, physics and english.

I was wondering if it's possible to get a 90+ atar with standard?

When people tell me that they know people doing standard english and getting a 90+ atar, their other subjects were usually 4u math, chem, etc. All the other high scaling subjects to make up for it.

Really badly.

If I got the same mark in advanced I would've gotten 95+.

If I got that same raw mark I would've gotten 96+.

But yeah, I got above 90 (okay, I guess) and I did standard.
But I also did Extension 1 & 2 Maths, Chemistry, and Biology.

really you should have no problem, Standard is more easily marked, so as long as you can keep 90+ in it, and smash the externals you could get alot higher than 91 since your doing 4 unit.

Advanced aligns much better than Standard, but you should be fine as long as you get high marks.

When I was doing the HSC, a student managed atar 97, and that was with a subject combo similar to yours, except without the 3 unit maths. They were an all-rounder, also.

So, get 90+ in all your subjects and you're set. =]

~80 in standard is equivalent to ~80 ATAR (maybe less). There is a big gap in scaling between marks in Standard.

e.g. My external scaled to 76.2 (same mark in advanced scaled to ~76.2), my internal scaled to ~59 (same mark in adv scaled to ~64.3).

My external was 86 and my internal was 80. That's not that much of a difference, and it gets fucked up.

Uh.....no......If so...we should have way more than 60 of band 6 standard english students per year.

That has to do with aligning..

But seriously, I think they're not marked that differently, considering I got 10/15 for my essay on the The Crucible (marked with advanced papers) and it was my worst essay (and belonging to place did not fit at all), and I got ~17 each in my standard essays.

So like, standard is probs only marked a small fraction easier.

Shouldnt be a problem - sure standard has terrible aligning but you can definitely get over 90 with the subject.

Its very hard to say, just do your best and try not to worry about it too much - these things are out of your control.
