I really have no idea how I've lead my life to this point. I really never had any real friends, there are people I sort of hang with but we aren't friends. I am just that weird kid whom is the odd one out.

Every year I promise myself ill get better but it never happens. I am in year 12, I've never been in a relation, been to a party, or even been to someone elses house

i mean, your class is such a small sample of people out there, and chances are, not everyone meets someone they have similar interests etc. in high school

And in those 18 years I've spent every weekend and spare moment alone in my room. How can I cope next year
same
and i enjoyed every minute of it

just because you aren't doing the same thing as every one else doesn't mean your wasting your time

i'm in europe for gods sake and i still spend my every moment online. if anyone's wasting time, it's me

just because you enjoy something different, doesn't mean you should feel bad for it

You don't have to be with friends to be happy. After the HSC most likely everyone will go separate ways and some may never even see each other ever again. Just think of it this way. Who knows what might've happened if you had "friends." They could've made you miserable, you could've done drugs, they could've led you to a path in life you wish you never took. Whether they're good or bad friends they could intentionally or unintentionally lead you on this path. Just focus on your studies now. All my friends are so focused on their studies that we hardly see each other anymore anyways.
If you really want to socialise then speak up. I'm assuming you're a quiet person... It's a pain trying to start a conversation with a quiet person so be open to talking. If they ask you a question, answer and ask them back with interest. Also don't always expect people to come up to you. You should try starting a conversation too with someone you're familiar with who won't think you're a "weirdo." Hope that helps a bit. Good Luck! :)

That's a pretty depressing outlook.

LOL that's just an extreme opposite outlook to how OP sees friends as. Just saying what could've been and that you don't have to feel friends are everything.

I'm in a similar position to you, OP. Although I supposedly have "friends", I feel none of them are real or genuine. I'm only there when they're wanting something, or for their mere convenience. The root of this probably is probably my innate social awkwardness. I think having no friends at all is better than having friends that will hurt you (both intentionally or unintentionally).

Honestly, the chances of there being genuinely nice people in your grade that share the same interests as you is extremely small. Just focus on your studies now and go to uni next year. There will probably be more people there you can bond with.

Because doing drugs is so horrible. Lol

Also, @ OP - Friends are just more people other than your family that constantly let you down.

Don't worry! As previously mentioned, you don't need to do things everybody else is doing to have 'fun'. I'm a weirdo, and there are other unusual people out there as well. As long as one isn't bad to others, this shouldn't be a source of depression.

Common music tastes are a great starting point for bonding, however I don't listen to modern music and instead listen to classical. How many teenagers out there, let alone in my school, are out there that relish Chopin, Liszt or Beethoven? I'm not going to let this small thing stop me though.

Don't worry about the relationship thing anyway. Sure it's a great way to be happy, but it's not the only way. This is similar to hanging out with friends, it's a great way to be happy, but it's not the only way.

Many people are quite social and can't live without friends. But there are introverts out there, and if socialising is not your thing then don't worry at all :) Do what makes you happy, because that's what matters (I'm not telling you to be selfish). I should add though, the best way to be happy is to make others happy (I should be listening to myself :S ). Maybe you could join your school's charity organisation.

As long as you're not bad to anyone, you shouldn't be having much doubts about yourself.

you don't really know who your friends are until you are older.

for now, most of the people you know in school are really just acquaintances.
i think that's normal.

if you really wanna become social, when you get to uni just join as many clubs as you can.
when i say join, i also mean participate, like go to the club meetings, be an active participant, maybe run for the leadership committee within the clubs etc.
