Mine is atrocious. My english teacher complained (2nd time now) - she didn't mark by assessment task on Caesar (probably get 0). (it used to be bad ONLY when I wrote fast. But now its bad all the time)

Is cursive hand writing better (faster + neater)? how long does it take to adjust?
I'm just worried about this for the HSC, not so much the trials.
I generally write around 1000- 1100 in 40 mins.

If I write "neat" it will probably be like only 900 :(

umm what

In that case I think it's a decision between whether you want to write more for the exam but risk getting very low mark..
because HSC markers skim essays and if they can't read your writing the first time off then they're only marking what they can see, they won't go back over it again

I thought they hire special people to read over poor handwriting?

From what I've heard, they escalate the paper to the supervisor, or a marker of equivalent rank.

Regardless, it is definitely not worth taking the risk. Always try to ensure that your handwriting is legible for the marker. Failing to pick up marks because the marker couldn't read your writing is a stupid way to screw up.

That would be phenomenally unfair to those who took the care to write legibly, unless you have a pathological condition that would affect your handwriting.

OP, post a sample!

um...it would be phenomenally unfair to discriminate against a student that has poor handwriting.

I think its because i sort of reached my limit - I can't write past 1000 words in 40 mins so yeah.
Ill post up a page from my english paper when I get it from my teacher
Definitely not taking risk in HSC.
Going to spend one whole week AFTER TRIALS learning cursive - it looks so nice.

Ugh, I have been told so many times by numerous amounts of english teachers about my handwriting -___- trust me, i'm in the same boat.

It's kinda annoying, like i want it to be legible, but at the same time, i don't want to jeopardise not putting enough information, quotes or analysis?

This is my handwriting under 40 minutes, and I can probably write from about 1200 - 1400 if I push it :/

errr no. Handwriting is a skill, it's not a trait (unless you have a diagnosed condition). Don't belittle those who take time and care to improve their script. My handwriting would look horrible too if I wrote too fast. It's like saying 'it would be phenomenally unfair to fail those who didn't study'.

and juicystar07: your handwriting is excellent, you have nothing to worry about.

Once you actually start med you will understand that not everything can be pinpointed to a single diagnosable pathological condition. My handwriting can be considered illegible regardless of the speed I write at (and has been an issue since I started to write). An occupational therapist can write a report saying that my handwriting is illegible (which I might add was accepted by the BOS in granting of special provisions) but there is no pathological reasoning for the cause of my illegible handwriting

Normally (like in general), my hand writing is neat, legible, people comment on how good it looks all the time
However during exams (especially english), I find myself, having to rewrite words because they're illegible.
e.g. normal my hand writing would look like this:

"I went to the shops to buy an apple"

However, in ~my 2nd essay for english it would look like this:

"I w~~t t_ th_ slups t_ bu__j ~~ ~jj~~"

(Obvious I'm exaggerating a bit, but the difference is really similar to that ^^^)

My handwriting is actually neat - not like typing though. But compared to many other people. It doesn't really matter about neatness though, as LONG as it's readable. I can write on average about 1100 words, but my record I think is 1274 words in 40 minutes looking really neat. BUT just chill out, as long as it's readable it doesn't matter.

Fair call, understood.

Maybe I should've just written 1600 illegible words and had one of those reports filed, instead of making my scripts concise and neat.
