It does depend on the paper, but you can roughly guess.

And 2009 was one of the easiest papers for a long time.

Fairly large.

Added MC and instead of questions being 15 marks, they are now 10.

^ haha yeah, that's true.

In an ideal world a harder paper is better, as it rewards those with actual skill in 4u mathematics. I knew I had my 3u down rather well (along with a few thousand others), but I chose to focus drastically less on 4u as a tactical manoeuvre, given it scaled so well and losing a few marks there in exchange for a killer Eng Adv mark was a wonderful trade-off for my ATAR. That's my one regret, not studying 4u nearly as much as I would've liked =( (basically did not TOUCH it for two months before the HSC, literally). If the test was even marginally easier, I would've outperformed many people who genuinely tried their hardest for 4u - and in a way I'm happy they beat me because they deserved it =].

I preferred the old way, to be honest. More separation.

I was essentially guaranteed my course, so ATAR was not a problem.

However, them silly mistakes were the biggest problems.

Well that's encouraging... from 94 onwards that means it was essentially 5-6 raw marks to gain 1 HSC mark.

Can't quite comment on that, way too difficult to say but generally yes.

So you reckon if I'd gotten, say, 84/120 instead of 78/120, I probably would've gotten 95 exam?
