Hey guys,
I was just wondering what exactly is the 'Strategic role' of the 4 functions? (I don't mean their interdependence).
I'm using the jacaranda textbook and their definition to it is quite strange.. is it like profit maximisation or something? I wrote that in my trial exams and the marker underlined it.
Could someone please explain the strategic role of:
1) Operations
2) Marketing
3) Finance
4) Human resources

Thanks in advance!

The strategic role of operations is to minimise the expense of the transformation process.
The strategic role of marketing is to develop a product and implement a series of strategies aimed at promoting, pricing and distributing a product to a specific target market in order to get more sales.
The strategic role of finance is to plan, monitor and control the business’ financial resources to ensure that their efforts assist in the achievement of financial objectives in both the short and long term.
The strategic role of HR is to develop a business with an effective and skilled workforce that will suit the business' needs in order to improve efficiency and competitiveness.

(Off the top of my head correct me if I'm wrong.)

well they are examples of strategies, but the true strategic role of operations is pretty much what Examine says.

Its ensuring resources are managed and allocated in a way that ensures the needs of the customer are met in the most effective and efficient way.
