YEAHHH!! What was the answer to the hybrid question?? I wrote the apples..
Me too hehe
but I totally blanked out at 'hybridisation' and started thinking about DNA-DNA hydridisation as proof of evolution and common ancestry of chimpanzees and humans.....
took me ages to get back on track

The biscuit one is easy.. the question is asking whats the difference between natural selection and the experiment about biscuits. the answer is that the biscuits can't reproduce..
exactly what I put :)

I got A for that question because of the lymph system... thats second line.. doesnt prevent entry

I put D as well.
Reasoning because the question asked for which 'prevented' the risk of entry. Can't be B or C as they are responses to the entry of pathogens and A is just there to fill the 4 responses. There reasoning though could be that A is correct because they're preventative measures. But it's not directly referred to in the syllabus, so I was unsure.

What did people answer for question 3: which of the following are all forms of defence that prevent entry of pathogens?
A- cilia, sweat, saliva
B- T cells .. Obviously wrong
C- inflammation, skin and phagocytosis
D- stomach acid, mucus, lymph system

I answered D

ok well the stomach and lymph system are all well inside the body, so the pathogens have obviously entered the body. D is wrong, C and B are obviously wrong. A is correct.

its A, how does lymph system prevent? Thats more involved in the 2nd and 3rd line of defence when the pathogens have already entered.

For the biscuits one i did the passing down of characteristics too, because natural selection only occurs as an evolutionary theory if the characteristic is inherited by future generations. The biscuits didnt really demonstrate this, and the other answers seemed wrong anyway

Overall thought it was a challenging test but not too bad, and I think I went pretty well. Although I was surprised that they didn't ask basically any questions about the kidney, action potential or the brain in communication, and nothing about homeostasis or enantiostasis. Oh well :)

It was A. The lymph system doesnt prevent entry, nor does stomach acid they act on pathogens once they have entered.

I picked C but now looking at all your reasoning for D it seems more plausible. Damn. There goes another mark.

u poor thing, lymph system is part of killing the pathogen, not preventing the entry. therefore the answer is A. don't worry i got 11 wrong because didn't read option c correctly!!!

In regards to the last question of the multiple choice (the biscuit one), did anyone put d?
I thought that the whole model was backwards as it demonstrated that the unfavourable species (the lemon biscuits) eventually took over the population, as opposed to the favourable ones as occurs in natural selection. Or are you supposed to view the lemon biscuits as having an survival advantage because no one likes it?

Maybe I'm just over-thinking it?
:(
