I'm still not too sure about the emphasis placed by HSC makers on providing quotes in responses, particularly for the extended responses in Sections III and IV. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is substantial quoting (such as of sacred texts) required in order to access higher marks or will minimal quotations suffice?

Cheers

The syllabus states this in the criteria for a band 6 response "Supports the interpretation with detailed, relevant and accurate information...". Obviously, quotes and references to sacred texts are the key example of this, so they are needed for a band 6 response. However, keep in mind that there is no set amount and merely throwing them in there will not get you very far. Notice that the point says "supports" - these quotes and references are only useful if they SUPPORT your argument. You dont get points for simply having them in the response.

Got it. Fairly standard requirements
Thanks for clarifying
