If I don't make the transfer, should I just take 2 courses next sem to see what the difference is?
You'd stay longer at uni though. At least take 3 so you're a full time student and get concessions and all that.

What I might suggest if you want to transfer is take one or two courses in the subject you want to transfer to, and if you go well - transfer.

That was my logic for semester 1 this year, I did my two maths ones, and then I did one Finance and one English. I was debating whether or not to transfer into English or not at the time, from Finance and taking the two of them allowed me to more easily make my decision.

Also I'd suggest you refine your study methods for those subjects. Ask the lecturer how best to study the subject. Study with other students. Dedicate more time to study. For maths, do the problems and re-read lecture notes and look at the problems again and see how the maths is used in it.

It's tough, yes. University learning is a lot different from school learning, but I know you did very well at school - I just think you have to tweak a few things maybe, and you'll do super on the uni front.

Nice work on Genetics, that was a killer subject for quite a few people in my cohort. Second year is much better (and easier imo) than ANAT1521.

Haha they're okay, I was actually expecting higher marks for most of the subjects but I'll take it

Good luck for your application but if you don't get in, don't worry - marks tend to even up in the 2nd year if you study hard enough because those with 90+ wams (who usually got there by getting 100 or thereabouts in chem and math) find it hard enough to maintain their WAMs, let only increase it.

How many people actually achieve 100 in these courses? I'm just trying to gauge the marks relative to usyd. I think maybe one or two people get 100 in the exam after scaling, but all up I doubt anyone manages. Same goes for math as far as I'm aware.

I managed 100 twice in mathematics subjects, (this is at usyd). Have seen a few other people getting that as well, although I don't know entirely how their scaling system works.

With 1st year chem, plenty, I'd say 10+ - I know about 5 people who got 100 in the first sem, second sem or both, and that's only in my degree alone, let alone all the science, adv. science, optometry people etc. With 1st year mathematics the same thing applies if one does really basic maths - you have people who did 4U doing fundamentals which is pretty much 2U.

If you can remember, raw mark estimates for those subjects?

First year adv diffcalc and second year adv real and complex analysis, close to full in both I think.

Here's our distribution for comparison (different year). BRB transferring to UNSW.

shit, that's like wot my lowest mark was. Gosh, I'd kill myself, if I only had an 82.5 WAM. :/

maths - a few get 100
Chem - sometimes 1 or *maybe* 2 get 100
Mblg - I don't know of anyone getting over 96

That's all I know for first year at usyd. Yay

It might be because of the horde of intelligent asian med rejects at UNSW med science and also the cut-off is pretty high as well.

I go to UNSW mate. Another factor may be how marks are allocated - I'm not sure how usyd allocates their marks, but at UNSW the quizzes, midsem and lab assignments are basically giveaways.

cut off for medsc at UNSW is ~95 with 10 bonus points on offer, USyd advanced science is the same with like none (iirc), and we have the TSP kids and shiz.
I dunno, there's probably a lot of factors.

yeah, I guess. We have 3 quizzes worth 5% each, lab is worth 15% all up, and the assignment is 10% so I guess you can get that 40% if you try hard, but the final is pretty impossible. :/

It's only 5 bonus points at UNSW. USYD has that access/flexible entry scheme, so if you're within 5 ATAR points and you did the necessary HSC courses achieving certain bands, then you are also offered a place.

Yeah, but these results are exclusively for the advanced and SSP chemistry students, which require an ATAR of 95 and 99 respectively.
