I'm doing Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Commerce.

In the UNSW Handbook (http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2014/3715.html), only Engineering courses available to be chosen for the first year. Does this mean that I won't be doing the Commerce component until the second year?

Also, are the courses that we choose now for the whole year or just Semester 1?
Yeah, that's because the courses you'll be doing for Engineering are prerequisites for later year subjects. I can assure you that it's beneficial having that option of deciding between a commerce and engineering course in later years, than be forced to choose commerce if you don't want to do a commerce course that particular semester.

Semester 1 only, and only one semester - that goes for every time you enrol.

Ah gee, maintenance during the making of the timetable.

Who's here trying to access UNSW mail? I got blackboard, library, myunsw working now.
It's always at that time, every day. Nothing special about early this morning.

how excatly does hecs work? I read the pamphlet thing but it didn't answer my question. what does it mean that you have to "pay a student contribution" doesn't HECS cover the whole thing?

and also, whats the difference between HECS and HELP?

Thanks again :)

is there a way to change what times you want the lectures or are they fixed?

and how do you get rid of clashes?
Lecture times are fixed - you may have several lecture time options, but they are fixed. So if Thursday 3-4pm is the only lecture time, then that's it.

If you are talking about ENGG1000, then it's been answered in other threads - essentially, just enrol. If it's another course, you will have to speak with the relevant School/s and they will decide whether to allow the clash or not.

Yeah, basically you delay paying until you meet a certain income threshold. Iirc, there's interest on it.

HECS-HELP is just the general name for the agreement you make with the government on how you will pay your uni fees. You can either pay upfront and get a discount, or you can delay that payment.

when do you pay the student contribution?

and what does it mean by fees must be paid before the cenusus date? shouldn't this already all be taken care of by HECS?

Sorry with the overload of questions

The thing is that the UNSW Handbook doesn't specify which courses you do in Semester 1 and 2 for the first year, unlike for other years. Shouldn't that mean that the courses you are doing are the same for the whole year?

When you start working. I haven't paid attention my HECS like... ever.

The Handbook shouldn't specify what courses you do exactly for every semester at all, only recommend for certain study plans. Also you take 48uoc a year, 24uoc a semester - you choose different subjects for Semester 2, also because some subjects are only offered in Sem 2.

(sorry i dont really understand what you're asking)

You don't need to pay anything if you elect to delay your payment. I haven't paid a single cent of my uni fees yet. We will pay when we meet an income threshold (like $40,000 - can't remember the exact figure). Same thing for SA-HELP (Student amenities fee)

No, a course only runs for the length of one semester. It may be offered in both semesters, but the course itself is run over one semester only.

The Handbook may not specifically tell you which semester to take it in, but you do need to think about it - for example, you couldn't take MATH1231 before MATH1131, and so it would be advisable to take MATH1131 in semester 1, then MATH1231 in semester 2. Think about prerequisites and whether a specific course is only offered in a certain semester. You can tell this by looking at the class timetable - generally, if it only has a certain semester listed, it will only be offered in that semester. You can look at past years to deduce whether it will be likely that the course is offered in another semester.

Go to the place where you enrolled, and click "Swap" when your list of subjects appears. Pick the class your friend is in and then follow the prompts.

Just like when you were enrolling.

On HECS? Should be no interest, although apparently Abbott wants to put interest on them or something like that... (not sure)

Couldn't remember. I think I was thinking of indexation instead.

The HECS-HELP thing in the enrolment process will delay the payment. You put in your TFN and there's some option to delay or pay upfront.

I haven't paid any uni fees yet - my debt is a little over $16000, so when I earn more than $51,309, the repayments will begin.

This makes me soo happy :) !!!!!!!!

Imagine if you only earnt $51,300/year, you would never have to repay back the loan
