I got into B Science [Advanced Science] at UNSW for the main round however my top preference was B Psychology; this degree has vacant positions [or at least did last year] thus I'd like to try again for it in the next round on the 30th and I'm wondering how I'd go about this. Do I just delete the preference I got into, save the changes and wait?

According to http://www.uac.edu.au/documents/atar/2014-main-cutoffs.pdf
The cutoff for this year is 98.00 and there are vacancies at the moment (indicated by the (V)).

That means you didn't make the cutoff.

Last year's main round: http://www.uac.edu.au/documents/atar/2013-main-cutoffs.pdf
Last year's last round: http://www.uac.edu.au/documents/atar/2013-late-cutoffs.pdf

Notice how the ATAR cutoff was increased in the late round last year (that was probably due to no (V) last year).
Hence, this year (because there's a (V)), there's a SLIGHT chance it may drop.

So it's still worth a shot trying out for late round (since you won't lose anything).

Okay.

Steps:
1. Accept/enrol into B Science (advanced). This would ensure you aren't left without a position at any university next year.
2. Go to UAC > Check and Change > Make sure B Psychology is above B Science (advanced).

Do step 2 by the 23rd Jan. Results released at 9pm 30th Jan.

3. If you are accepted, go back and decline/unenrol your main round offer. Accept B Psychology.

If you aren't accepted, keep B Science (advanced) and maybe try again next year.

Forgot to mention that step 1 must be done by this week (not too sure on it though..). Just do it ASAP.

My friend enrolled and wanted to see their chances at a different degree. However, I remember when enrolling for unsw myself, it said it was university policy to ignore applications to other degrees in the uni once you enrolled. Can anyone clarify this?

No... that's not right.

If you receive a later offer, you can always unenrol from UNSW to re-enrol for another course you are offered, or for another course you are offered at another uni - because it is before the Semester 1, 2014 census date.

i have accepted but not enrolled. i wont lose my offer from the main round right? or do i have to finish part 2 before changing my prefs?
You should enrol now, because classes are filling up quickly and you will most likely end up having the choice of two or so classes because everything else is full.
