There's no algebraic way of doing these kinds of equations. They need to be done via inspection and the solution is usually x=0.

FYI another common one is 'find the point of intersection between y=ln(x) and y=x-1' or something like that. Then the solution is x=1.

The clue is when they ask you to solve 'two different species of functions' (in this case one is a log and one is a polynomial).

Then you look for 'trivial solutions' such as x=0 or x=1.
