seems legit...

you do realise actual elections in the Ukraine are going to be held on the 25th of May right???

In the meantime, the Ukrainians are stuck with a lawless government that has the potential to turn into a junta ruled by militia men from the Right Sector...

Lawless government? What are you talking about? The former president's party pretty much booted him out as well and he fled before signing the deal to return to the 2004 constitution. Military junta my ass, the Ukranian military has complete control of the situation outside of crimea (where russians are causing shit). So tell me, if there is so much support from the crimean population to be russian, why are there moscovites raising the russian flag on buildings?

pretty sure many crimeans legitimately want to be part of russia, iirc crimea had it's own elected president like 20 or so years ago but ukraine got rid of him

it's an autonomous region. I'm pretty sure the 95% vote is full of shit considering the fraud that goes on in russian elections not to mention the mass number of russian troops at polling stations. If Russia gains crimea, they would have a HUGE strategic victory from a political crisis in the ukraine. funny how the russian backed president yukanovach hasn't said shit about this.

You're very Western centric ain't you comrade...

as fraught with fraud (apparently, in your view) as that electoral process may have been... a 95% majority is a pretty big deal... even if the referendum was completely impartial, Crimea would still, in my view, be hitting it off with Russia... Truth of the matter is (as much as Western media would like to deny), Crimea has wanted to distance itself from the Ukraine for quite some time (pretty much since the fall of the USSR)... Whether that be with Russia, or to be a completely autonomous, sovereign nation... What needs to happen, is the West needs to respect those wishes and allow Crimea to be Crimea (if that makes sense)... Instead, what we have is a bunch of invalids in charge in the west trying to call shots on what is "good" for the Crimean people... very, very democratic

In a completely non politically motivated move; Youtube has blocked the channel of Russia Today... they cited a "technical fault" as the cause... genius!

And yes, I will have no respect for any Ukrainian government until they hold their general elections... I think an interim government should really reconsider calling shots on what sovereignty and political due process is... Also think it's a bit rich to make threats against your neighbour and then try to hide behind NATO (they are only further complicating the situation)...

That's the issue with the former soviet states, lot's of Russians immigrated to other SSR's and decided to stay post-soviet union. You have to admit regardless whether or not Crimea wants to be part of Russia, the referendum itself was done under huge duress and Russia is essentially annexing a territory of a country. That's like saying the South Island of NZ should be part of Australia if we send lots of Aussies to live there and have a "referendum." It's still funny how the former president of Ukraine has not said one word about a part of his country being annexed.

Russia is pretty much just ninja'd another country's territory. It sets a VERY VERY dangerous modern precedent... Remember the time when ze Germans took over Sudetenland and Austria?
