I would say it would be UNSW-there's a reason why 10,000 people study engineering at UNSW(at least that's what I heard), but I guess it also depends on what type of engineering you wish to pursue...

Don't get us UNSw-ers wrong (we are biased); there are other uni's that do also offer engineering programs but it really is what one suits you? essentially you're going to be doing the "same thing" learning the same maths and stuff about concrete but just where do you like it better?

According to the 2012 Annual Report, there were 10046 students studying Engineering at UNSW (undergraduate and postgraduate). According to the 2013 Travel Survey and Campus Counts, around 41000 students and staff attend the Kensington campus on a typical semester day (from a total of over 44000 students at Kensington). Of that, 81% attend campus on a typical day, so around 33000 students attend the Kensington campus on a typical day.

So assuming the data is normalised, Engineering has around 8000 students who attend on a typical semester day. Given that there are single degrees (4 years), dual degrees (5 years, 5.5 years and 6.5 years), we could take an average of 5 years for an engineering degree, which means there's around 1600 students per year. This is consistent with ENGG100 in 2013 with a total of 1673 students.

If you look at any class timetable for the core subjects of say Civil or Mech, you can get an idea of how many students are in each stream. Mech has around 350 students and Civil has around 450 students. Even if cohorts consist of students from different years, it has been consistent for 2012, 2013 and 2014.

At UNSW you could probably fit 80000 people in a little bit of squeeze, but it would be fine.

By halfway through semester, usually quite a few students skip lectures here and there as you will see most likely in second year courses. Maybe that gave you the impression the whole uni only had 10000 students lol.

So I took the liberty to add all the CATS room capacities listed here: https://www.venuesandevents.unsw.edu.au/cats/room-info.html

That gave me a total of 16988 seats available (doesn't include the library and computer labs). Obviously UNSW has to organise the timetabling so not more than 16988 students are in a room at any given time (for safety reasons). But I doubt the campus ever has 33000 students at any given time.

I thought it would be larger than that.

Maybe 80000 students would not work. Its moreso 33000 students are at uni every day, but some leave and go at different times so at any given time it probably wouldn't be more than 25000 at uni most likely.

If that were the case, then I would understand why the bus lines are so long. There might also be post grads doing research so they may not need to come to campus often. There are still parts of the uni I don't know about so students may be there also
