Think about what the interview you're attending is looking for (i.e. technical competence, personality, etc) and then prepare accordingly. It never hurts to have done some research into the role/company/industry though to show you at least know what you're signing up for and why they should invest in you.

Cadetships are given by private companies. There are scholarships, such as the Co-Op Scholarship, and a few others, I'm not really sure. Post on the engineering section of UNSW. This thread refers to business cadetships.

As mentioned above there are coops. I remember when I was in year 12 there were some construction cadetships offered by Abigroup but not sure what happened since then.
