If Person A and Person B get same mark in external exam hsc (a state ranking mark) for some subject and they are both ranked 1st in school but Person A has assessment mark average of 100 and Person B 98, then how is it determined who will be above in the state rank? Or are they the same rank? Like are they both 1st or is one 1st and the other 2nd? Thabj you

State ranks are determined by the final hsc mark, which is the average of both assessment mark and exam mark. In this case, despite both having the same exam mark, A has a higher assessment mark, therefore he/she/it will get a higher rank than B

you can't have equal firsts in school??
and if they both got 100, wouldn't they both get a hsc mark of 100 because they get assigned the top 2 marks achieved by the cohort (which is both 100)??

I've seen elsewhere state rank is based purely on external and possibly performances in extension units.

In the case of extension courses, if two or more students receive equal marks then the marks awarded for other courses in the subject area are also taken into consideration."
