Any point in doing a subject if you'll drop it in year 12? (1 Viewer)

If you look at my other topic you'll see how confused I am about subjects and changing them but....

I'm doing Ext English right now, and so far it's been pretty interesting but I don't know whether I should do Extension English 2 or Extension History for Year 12?
I love history and I'm really good at it (not bragging I just need to say it for the point of this topic) but I also love writing and I don't know which I would be best suited to.

But really, is there any point in doing a subject for year 11 when you are sure you will drop it in year 12?

I reckon you should give Extension english a try. Ask the teacher if he/she could tell you the topic you are going to be doing in yr 12. If you don't like it, drop it next year and take up some other extension. That's what I am doing. Our teacher told us we are doing Crime Writing next year, so there is a 95% chance I am going to drop English extension next year and take up Music or History Extension instead. However, since we need to do 12 Units in Preliminary and I am really not interestred in any of the other 2U subjects I just decided to stick with it for now.
Don't worry about it, you'll find that next year more Extension opportunities will pop up and by then all will be clearer. You may well decide to do English extension 2 so don't drop Ext 1 just yet. You won't have the option of doing History extension next year anyway so I do not see why you should worry about it now...

Ok....first what do you mean I won't have the option of doing History Extension next year?

Also, the thing is, I can only do Ext English and Ext English 2 if I don't change around my subjects (which I think I need to do)
So I'm not really sure.

edit: also in Year 12, my teacher does globalisation and stuff around that area.

Sorry about the typo. I mean to say 'you won't have the option of doing History Extension UNTIL next year.'

If your in prelim this year, that means you've only just started so I serious wouldn't be worrying to much about your subjects at the moment. Enjoy what your doing, if somethings not working drop it, otherwise wait until the end of the year and sum up your options. If you did well in a subject and your liked it, keep it. If not, decide on something else. Its too early to be worried about that sort of stuff.
And there is nothing wrong with doing a subject in year 11 and then dropping it for year 12. Almost everyone drops subjects once they reach year 12. I did 1 unit SLR last year and loved it but knew if was just for fun and the course would only go for 12 months but I don't regret doing it. Just stick with extension english for the moment and decide about history at the end of the year.

Just quick question if anyone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated. Im going into year 12 in 4 weeks and im doing the following subjects: general maths, legal studies, standard english, business and chemistry.
i want to drop out of chemistry, some teachers agree with me because of the following reason:
- i hate it!
- hate science all together and always have
- don';t see it in my future at all as i want to be a writter
- its hard and i'm falling behind in other subjects because of it and i know that if i focus on the other 5 i can do really well
- i already know im faling and i will continue to fail because it just doesn't go in my head at all

but my friends and a few other people are saying to give it a try next year and see how i go so im kind of lost please help thanks

do an easy subject and work less for it to yield the same results.
