We were required to write about 2 but the guy only wrote 1 so he got 15/20 somehow....

Well I know at the school I ended, if you wrote extremely well, and only had one related text you could be capped at a high B..

Even if the task required you to write about 2 ORT's?

Yep. The only penalty was you couldn't get into the excellent range, but if you wrote everything perfectly...

As long as it was in class...

Highest mark for the economics essay was 16/20. The criteria for eco essays are just way too strict....

tbh, i would argue that 12/20 for a mark indicated that you didn't answer the question properly, contrary to what drsoccerball believed
In fact they increased your mark today, now its 13/20 drsoccerball

unfortunately, this does happen

but to get in the 13/15, 18/20 mark range - you do need some originality

what was the weighting
AOS in term 1 was 35% and this task was 15%

Most of my ideas were original:L i spent the whole last holidays analysing the book with originality. But i guess English isnt about how original you are or how well you analyse an essay. Rather it is the subjectivity of teachers that earn the marks.

The marker did not know you, so he couldn't be biased towards you, if that's your main concern.

No that's not what i was insinuating. Did you read the markers own essay? It was all story telling no analysis..

aren't you guys allowed to find out who will mark X assessment?

because that's what i do and hence i constantly badger them on what they think is good

again, you have to follow what every teacher in your english department likes

yeah, it sucks that you feel treated unfairly but it's the hsc

lrn2 play the game
The thing is the teacher doesn't even know he's marking it till after the test..

Tbh our school system is a bit complicated and meeting up with the marker is hard considering our busy timetables...

regardless, you should still find a way to chat with the teachers for the english department and really take note of what they look for in essays

sure, it may come at the expense of your recess or some crap, but it's worth it tbh

ugh, this pisses me off - can't believe some don't go out of their way to help - i'm lucky to have english teachers who are happy to give up their lunch for me to explain why i got this result
LOL our maths teachers are dedicated. They not only help you in any spare time they have but they go out of their way to help you. My physics/chemistry teacher can be dedicated but english department are so ceebs
