Should i drop chemistry (2 Viewers)

Hi,

i have just got my half yearly ranks, and i have a progressive rank of 13/21...should i drop... my school does well in chemistry generally, we are ranked 90th in the state. Also our exams are quite hard. Will i be able to achieve a high band 5 or band 6

Enig meant "no" as in dont drop and "yea" as in you can still get band 5/6.

Yeah personal experience aswell. My school was ranked ~180 and I was ranked 6/28 which was pretty bad and nowhere near band 6 level for my school. I got 63% in the prac exam and 70% in an open book task. The rest were 80s.

Did a bit better in the hsc exam so my external was 93 and internal mark was 88. So as you can see my bad ranking did have a drag down effect. The higher you can get your rank in your cohort the better.

Chem is a hard but enjoyable subject and if you study for it properly and efficiently, you will be rewarded.

I think your ranking is good and there is still plenty of time for improvement. Good luck

It really depends on your school because different schools mark differently (easier/harder) but ideally if you want a band 6 you want to be in the low 80s range as a minimum.

If you lift your rank to around 6-8 you will have a better shot at b6 but this is just an estimate. Search up your school on topscores and see the no. of b6 in chem achieved each year. Get a rough number and try and get your rank within this range.

i agree with the marking criteria is horrible, though my teecher said it is very unlikely that i get a band 6, he said i could get a low to mid band 5... i don't know whether i should drop and keep my other subjects, as chemistry drains me and takes the most time
