The IT department usually have to deal with clientele to design a product. They do the sketches, plans, timeframes and ensure things such as ergonomics and ethical procedures are being followed.

Of course , there are programmers but that's usually a lower level occupation (not trying to offend anyone )

If you are worried about the prospect of a career, the I would look away from IT. Most of it is being outsourced to Manila, China and India

Lol. Usually doesn't work that way in the real world.

Also, development is definitely not a "lower level occupation" it's completely separate with many "levels" - some of which are the most skilled roles in the ICT industry.

People have scare mongering about outsourcing for ages, but the ICT industry has been growing in Australia.

No. I know you are only in prelim and stuff but stop spreading misinformation.

As brent noted, the IT industry is growing in Australia and there are numerous benefits to doing development inhouse as opposed to a dedicated location in India (of which, outsourcing is starting to move away from). I could write a few para's about this but just no.

Maybe your right, but I'll link you to a few reports to confirm my statement (they are up-to date) when I get home

Anyway OP, have a look at your uni website to get a brief on your course . Ask other students to get a feel for what your doing.

And again, you can be successful in any field, as long as you enjoy it. Who knows ? Maybe you will start your own business or maybe write some world class software for today's technological era?
