Thanks, I got the same as you except for 9 which I put as C. I don't really know how to do it.

For 8, A is correct because when e->0, the ellipse can either go taller OR go narrower. It doesn't do both at the same time. The reasoning behind this is because as e->0, b->a or a->b (doesn't really matter which), hence the ellipse can change shape in only one way. But for 9 I got C, because the transverse axis is the distance between the two x-intercepts, and the intercepts are at (4,0) and (-4,0)

In the dictionary it says two foci not intercepts?

Link it, because every maths site says its between the two intercepts.

The best way to remember it is:
Transverse axis: 2a
Conjugate axis: 2b

Thanks for your answers guys. Also Jonathan, you go to Hurlstone? What were the marks like that people got for this paper? To me it seems quite easy compared to a lot of other papers I have done.

Most people got like 90+
We also didn't cover mechanics and volumes at the time of the exam rip

iirc it was like 99 for rank 1, 96 for rank 2, 95 for rank 4, 94 for rank 8, 93 for rank 10 (cohort of like 50 people) and idk after that. Everyone scored really highly in this exam

Most of us had to gamble question 9 because we forgot which one was the transverse axis ._.
me too :(
