We'd like to start things off by asking what you guys think are the best tutoring colleges around??

* What makes them 'the best' in your eyes?
* Would you recomend other students go there?
* What subjects do they teach?

Hey everyone,

I think Insight Mathematics is a great place to start your maths tutoring, especially if you are in Year 10 or 11. It has a great philosophy of inspiring learning and independence in maths,which helps you achieve good results. It is also taught by a highly qualified actuary and friendly past HSC students with great results. It currently specialises in teaching Year 10, Preliminary and HSC 2U, 3U and 4U Mathematics.

hi there,
i think everyone agrees the phrase "each to their own". but i was just a normal kid in year 8. I joined ngo and sons after leaving peak tuition. Ngo and sons took me to another level. I was going to moorebank, but after meeting mr mai i inspired to go to james ruse. He taught all the ruse kids but he told our class he wants to help dr truong dream to get the local fairfield kids to james ruse.
A lot of us did, some to sydney boys as well. What i am trying to say is, you need to pick a tutoring center and trust them. I never trusted Mr Le at peak; i didnt even know he was the boss. When i saw Mr mai it trusted him, and it got me very far. I dont have him no more, but before he left he told us he is leaving us in safe hands - and i now i have Dr truong, and honestly, he is just brillant!

Hi everyone,

I started a new thread asking about having a tutor for year 7. But no one replied. So I am posting it here again. I tried backreading but I just thought it would be good to update readers about current tutoring colleges. I saw that some of the tutoring colleges mentioned in this thread are already closed.

On that note, would you recommend a tutor for Year 7? If you do, what is the best tutoring college that would cater for the needs of a Year 7?

Is Matrix good? Noticed though that they only do Math and English for Year 7, and I think it's expensive at $582 per subject per term. I'll be spending $1164 for only 2 subjects.

I also checked Talent 100. They are slightly more expensive than Matrix at $600 per subject. Also just Math and English. So $1200 per term for only 2 subjects.

How about Ngo and Sons? They do Math, English and Science. And I can take all these three subjects for $900 per term if I decide to take all subjects at Ngo and Sons. Cheaper but how's the teaching quality?

I have not checked James An yet, but I know that they also do offer tutoring for Year 7. I am not sure how much their fees are though - their website does not specify fees - or maybe I just have not seen it.

Can anyone please share their experience as a Year 7 if you were tutored by these 4 tutoring colleges or any tutoring college for that matter?

Why don't you just self-study and use the money saved for your tutoring in Yr 10, 11 and 12. Yr 7 is nuthin.

James An

If you think none of them is good for Year 7 needs, which one then is better than these 4?

If you self-study in yr 7, you train yourself in self-reliance. If you are able to cope well in your Yr 7 this way, then continue with the next year and the next year until, and if, you find the going hard without additional help. Give it a try.

I have personally enjoyed Talent 100 for group tutoring, but also do some 1-1 stuff as well

yes - in order to get sorted into a class and to be accepted you take a placement test - you get sat down in a room by urself and suffer at calculus or other subtopics based on whatever year group you are getting tested to be sorted into (I recommend prepping topics beforehand if you want to get into the top class - I didn't but got into A1 but I went somewhere else)

For English, I discovered that SIGI Learners at Hurstville is great. Especially if you get the class taught by the head tutor there Hayden. Very enthusiastic and lively and they also produce great results. It's literally next to the train station so transport if convenient. They actually do other HSC subjects like Maths Ext 1, 2, Physics, Chem and Biology but I totally recommend as a minimum try the English. Have had good feedback on English. For Science, there is the Matrix at Hurstville as well or Straithfield. It gets tricky, you need to not only find a centre that is good at the subject, but also try to get a class taught by a good tutor. It's not just reputation, it's also about the tutor to be able to convey that knowledge to you. Not very tutor will click with you, diff teaching styles etc. You know the saying " horses for courses " ...
