Particularly this method: http://www.nabla.hr/Z_MemoHU-128.htmWhich methods are you talking about? Inspection in general should be fine (might depend on wording of question), and you could differentiate your answer for indefinite integrals if you wanted to show 'working'.
What do you mean by non-elementary? You can still integrate it?That doesn't work, it's still a non-elementary integral.
The answer returned by Mathematica is
xlog(1+e^x) + DiLog(-e^x) +C
The DiLogarithm is non-elementary and can only be simplified under specific circumstances, none of which are met by this integral.
Depends on what you accept as an answer. The HSC definitely doesn't have the DiLogarithm in it, so such a question would never appear. What do you mean by non-elementary? You can still integrate it?
Here's a much easier one.
Find .
What's a DiLogarithm? Is it just like a log or ln thing raised to a power? i.e.Depends on what you accept as an answer. The HSC definitely doesn't have the DiLogarithm in it, so such a question would never appear.

I'm not sure how I'm suppose to find the u term. Am struggling -_-
I'm sorry, but I'm slightly confused. For the HSC are we allowed to use methods other than that explicitly taught in the HSC for integration? Does this apply to other topics in math? Or is this a special case that your school is allowing? That's why I'm planning to use only known methods in my HSC externals. I asked the head teacher and I'm allowed to use any method as long as they have formal documentation on it and it leads to the answer (For ex. Heaviside Cover Up)
Extracurricular Methods, sure.....Are there any faster methods on integrating even powers of trig functions with double angle? Cheers
With bounds, thanksExtracurricular Methods, sure.....
Are we talking with bounds or without bounds?
I still can't interpret your question. Perhaps provide some specific classes of functions. With bounds, thanks
Do you mean examples?I still can't interpret your question. Perhaps provide some specific classes of functions.
