Hi,
I have a question regarding a decision I have to make, which I am unsure of, because of how much emphasis people put on a students individual ranking within their school. NOTE: I am referring to individual ranking not the ranking of the school.
Now, I currently attend Parramatta High School - a partially selective school which is decent (came around 100th in HSC Rankings last year) and I rank in around the top 3 in all of my subjects and if I keep this up, I believe I'd be able to obtain a top 3 rank in my Y11/12 courses. However, I have applied for several schools such as Girraween and Sydney Boy High - schools reputable for their strong HSC results and school rankings. So in the case that I do make it in for either school, both schools have much more academically excelling students and obviously my rank wouldn't be as high in these schools as it is in Parramatta, I'd probably be hanging around 50th-100th.. top 50 if lucky.
So my question is, because people put so much emphasis on the importance of ranking (of individual in a course in their school), would moving from a partially selective school where I rank high (top 3) to a high achieving school (both Girra and Sydney Boys rank high as a school) where my individual rank would be likely to fall significantly affect my ATAR negatively? Would I be better off staying at Parramatta and maintaining that high rank or moving to SBHS or GHS where my rank would be kinda shit?
Should I move?
