Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017

What about if it's the other way around?
(Doing commerce, might want to do engo)

Engo seems interesting af (rlly enjoy math/Phys) but I like a 4 hour and I rlly don't see myself working in the field

But comm for me is 2 more years which feels so short (legit feels like I started uni a few weeks ago)
If you think you will really enjoy engineering then go for it, I think it will give you more time to think about your career options and also get more work experience, but if you know your heart is set on commerce then don't waste time, but I think it is hard to know whether you see yourself working in the field without talking to some actual engineers and also actually studying a bit of the content and seeing the job opportunities out there.

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017

what do you want to do when you grad?
Don't wanna do engo as a career tbh but 3 years seems short

Gonna stick to commerce rn unless there is some viable way to extend my degree (underloading for the sake of extending doesn't appeal to me)

Engineering did appeal to me BC it extends the degree and I also learn stuff I kinda enjoy learning

Not worth it I guess

Underload comm and do an internship with it

Right so I'm in a bit of a pickle here
I'm probably going to end this sem with a WAM of ~75

That means, in order to get a HD wam, I'm gonna need 90 in every single subject after this year

I think I'll need a HD wam to remain competitive for IB/MBB

I'm happy to extend my degree but I'm not sure how. (I'm running out of subjects)

That I won't be in my penultimate year (can I take a lot of gen eds ?)

I don't think extending your degree will necessarily ensure you will get your 90+ average, also the final exams are not even here yet, so you still have the chance to improve your marks beyond 75. Also why do you want to get into IB/MBB? (I think you can consider trying to accumulate some impressive extracurriculars to make up for your marks-it might be one way that will make you more competitive for the IB)

Extending my degree means my penultimate year is pushed back, so I have a chance to do more subjects

Otherwise, applications open February

I was thinking:
1. Pick up comp sci
- Take two gen eds Sem 1 (underload)
- Take two easier com.subjects Sem 2 (underload)

- boost wam, apply for penultimate year (now 2019) and then drop comp sci lmao

You aren't even elegible with a WAM lower than 75 for a lot of the jobs in applying for lol

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017

Boost your WAM and take honours?

If you're doing Comm/Law, ~75 is alright enough to get into interviews if you have decent EC's
Thought about it but really don't wanna do research [emoji14]

Just doing straight comm
The people I know who have made IB all have HDs rip, stellar ECs too

Probably going to underload next sem just to see how it is
If I make it great, otherwise I'll stick to the comp.sci plan where I don't actually do comp.sci

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017

Is PHYS1160/AStronomy still easy? I've heard people say it is getting harder and harder. Any other WAM booster subjects you guys know of?

Edit: By wam booster I mean like 95 WAM if you put a decent amount effort

wam boosters are relative to the person

Like I would say biochem cos I put in about 20% effort but got 90+
Astronomy I put more effort and got 80+
Psych 1A I thought would be a wam booster but I fucked up and got 70

My best suggestion is that if u are billingual then do a beginners or intermediate subject for that language, and it will boost your wam
