so i finished my trials and came first for maths by two marks but im unsure if i will get assessment rank 1 for maths. for the term 1 test which weighed 15% i came first too but for the others i came 5th. my thinking was that i have topped the grade for 55% of assessments (40% from trials and 15% from term 1 test) so that means i have achieved rank 1 but people have said that its not correct. Is there a way to find out if you have achieved rank 1 for a subject and was my thinking correct?
no your thinking is not correct. It is likely you are rank 1 but it depends how close the other people were to you.
It is done by overall mark. If you overall mark is the highest than you would be rank 1.
For instance you may have gotten rank 1 in one assessment, and the trial. But the guy who got rank 2 might only be 0.5 mark lower than you in both, and rank 1 in the other asssessments.
e.g.
A: might have got 99% in trials and term 1 test. But 94% in the rest (53.9 + 42.3 = 96.2% overall)
B: might have got 96% in trials and term 1 test. But 98% in other assessments (52.8 + 44.1 = 96.9% overall)
So even though Person A got a higher rank than person B in more assessments, because person B's overall weighted average is better, so he would be rank 1. (It will depend on the spacing of ranks in the assessments)
