How do people that do Physics know what content to self-study? The syllabus doesn't go into specifics with what is meant to be learnt a lot of the time.

Use a bunch of different textbooks to get a wholistic range of knowledge. Totally get what you mean with the syllabus though it’s so vague with regards to the depth you need to know the content etc. I’d also ask the teacher or even friends along your studying as they’d hopefully know.

Buy a few books, learn the content BOOM. Whatever the textbook teaches, you learn. Textbooks have been written to cover the syllabus.
