G'day all of the people here, My name's Hans and I am a year 12 student as you can tell from the title of this post. Yes, I admit that my procrastination is so bad that it came down to this horrible situation and as much as I hate putting myself in these uncomfortable situations, I still end up doing my bad habits. I have no idea where to start because I only have 7 days left to prepare for 5 of my subjects.

The subjects I am doing are Biology, Chemistry, Ancient History, Standard English, and Standard Maths 2 which are fairly hard subjects in my opinion. I am the type of person that does not do well when it comes to tests/examinations and the thought of sitting in the hall and doing the exam is making me stressed. I know I am bound to mess it up but I just want to do whatever I can do as of now.

Yeah you’re screwed... but that’s you’re fault... as if you wouldn’t study for your final exams. That’s like getting ready to go skydiving and saying “I’m not going to wear a parachute”... honestly don’t understand why people do this to themselves... but good luck anyway!! 🤩🤩

Yes, I know it's my fault and I'm ready to face the consequences of my actions. I know it's stupid and disappointing but here I am in this stressful situation. I can kiss my ATAR goodbye.

It’s never too late to start studying. Sure you didn’t do it earlier but that doesn’t mean it’s over. During stressful times like this, you should try being more optimistic; it’ll help in the long run. I suggest you read over your notes everyday, it’ll go into your long term memory. Practice trial papers. Do papers in exam condition. Look at sample answers from past HSC exams.

I agree 100%. Sure your results might not be the best but if you start studying now you can still achieve

I recommend scheduling all your trials and then making another schedule for what you’re going to revise on each day.

I might just add while doing past papers although it may seem daunting you have the option of open-book which means you can refer to notes. If you don't know how to do a question, try your hardest to write what you can. Through this method, you can identify your weak points and your strong points!

no offence but if they didn’t do it earlier what makes you think they’ll change? It took me years + countless study skill sessions to ‘perfect’ my study habits and I still get it wrong 😂...

So what if it took you years? It’s never too late to start something especially studying. You can’t judge someone just because they didn’t study earlier. Instead of putting them down, you should be encouraging them even if they do or do not take your encouragement or advice. Regardless, there’s no point making fun of someone who didn’t study; that’s just rude.

You should prob not go to school for the next week and study like 12 hours a day. I would try look at each topic for every subject and identify the most important stuff, prob like 2-3 hrs per term and finish off with 2 days of practice questions. Although you have a week you will be cramming the entire time. Also not all of your exams will be on the first day of trials so you can prioritize subjects. Other than that you are fked, either way you're prob not gonna do very well but this could help a bit.

Students need a 90% attendance in order to be eligible for the HSC. It’d be better if he went to school to revise there as well and home too

Yes but if he went to school most of the time in the 3 terms leading up to now he will prob still have 90% attendance for the year, and even then he might be able to make up a family commitments reason for why he can't go to school. I really think that in his situation going to school is going to be worse than revising at home since ideally he will spend the entire day studying, if he goes to school he might only be able to do 4-5 hours.

Studying 12hrs a day is really not recommended. You don’t want to overwork your brain. The recommended hours for studying is 4-6 hrs and that’s what he should be doing regardless of how much work needs to be done. Revising at school will give him a wider access to sources from teachers and students. He can ask for notes, annotations and sample responses for questions he doesn’t understand. Being in class itself, revision with the class for the subject is extremely beneficial especially fi he hasn’t started yet; this can be his beginning for revision.

why are people so negative? you're honestly fine if you plan your time. I'd say split the next few days into blocks. I've been getting up at 6 and then working till eight, for example, doing notes in that time. Then note revision in the library during recess and lunch, and then going straight to the state library after school to do practice papers and working till six. YOU'LL BE FINE, and remember we're only headed for death, so exams mean precisely nothing

yeah I agree. a lot of ppl don't do too well in trials but hsc is still worth 50% so if you pull ur act together before then you can still manage to get a decent atar. also probably look at early entry if you have any courses at you really want to study or look at unis like CSU where the atar threshold is pretty low for most subjects

Many don’t do too well in trials is mainly because trials is harder than the HSC, so that’s one of the contributing factor as to why some people do well in the HSC. Besides, during COVID-19, I doubt the markers are gonna mark as harsh. Not to mention students have a pretty good chance of getting into uni especially since there aren’t international students coming to Australia to study due to COVID - more spaces and the fact that uni’s need students soo.. that’s a bonus. Go with the flow and do your best.

Good luck to all.

is this actually true..

Edit: Not neccessarily, but OP should be wary because below avg marks + low attendance may become a catalyst to not getting their HSC. Take the advice on this board with discretion, as always.
