Relatively speaking, English was easy, and now Ancient History was easy.
Do you think all exams will have been changed to become easier due to covid since it is pretty evident some have been changed?
Also considering this is the first year for the new maths syllabuses, but for sciences being the second year which would have been for experimenting after a fairly predictable first year.
If this trend were to follow, how would that affect marks?

I've only done english so i can't speak for all exams becoming easier, but i remember it saying that NESA will take into consideration what we've gone through this year, so maybe they have made all exams easier. I think that this would mean more people getting higher marks, meaning our cohort does pretty strong, which will bring up everyone's mark up even more with scaling

Aren't exams finalised around february, at least from what I've heard everyone saying. So maybe its just a coincidence they're easy or they actually purposely made it easier overall. Does that change the alignment/scaling process in any way if everyone is bound to do better? im not knowledgeable on that lol can someone give some perspective

Alignement is done by nesa, potentially they will set similar cutoffs to previous years if taking into account covid. So then aligned average would be higher on the basis that the raw scores are higher.

If the raw marks are higher, they will probably be increased less or reduced more to get the scaled marks. Scaled mean won't change much.

Wouldn't that bring everyone's mark up less/bring it down then if everyone does well?

English was definitely a good surprise! Let's wait and see how everything else pans out...

The HSC has become the biggest JOKE with this years exams. Seems like NESA has gone weak. They used to have a reputation for making exams which were worthy of an international standard but they have gone SOFT on this 2020 year group over a common cold. 2020 YEAR GROUP STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS ABOUT HARD EXAMS!!!! MAKE THE HSC GREAT AGAIN!
Does it matter though cause the ATAR is a rank

It matters cause the whole 2019 cohort could have gotten the same marks for 50% less effort then 2020
Well they didn't have to spend a whole term doing zoom lessons now did they (which mind you are trash, half the lessons where spent on just figuring out whether everyone had arrived or not).

doens't really matter ATAR is a rank..
But if they had made the exams easier, it would be harder to get a higher rank because everyone is getting extremely good marks, and therefore harder to get a good ATAR
