Hey everyone,

I figured I'd probably write something here in case anyone is in a similar boat. My school's trials got cancelled so they are just using our past three assessment tasks for maths to calculate our final internal mark.

I was wondering whether it is still possible for me to obtain an E4 for both 3U and 4U provided I get above say 92 in the final HSC exam (going to aim to do much better of course but let's just say that at bare minimum).

My internal marks + rank are looking something like

Extension One: 83/100 and ranked 5/24
Extension Two: 80/100 and ranked 4/11

Any consolation or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you heaps

What school range are you in? From the looks of it E4 is likely jus gotta sweat HSC. Jesus just realised how small your cohort is.

Hello, I think it is definitely possible for you to achieve a band E4 in both Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2. This is because of 2 reasons:
  1. You are ranked in the top range of your cohort for both subjects, meaning your final rank for both will likely be favourable, which puts you in a good position as you get closer to the HSC exams.
  2. The HSC exam is worth 50%, meaning it will have a significant effect on your final mark. This, combined with good scaling and good performance in the HSC exams (which must be your focus), will definitely have a positive impact on your final rank, hopefully maximising your chances of obtaining an E4 overall in both subjects.
I hope this helps! :D

Thanks heaps everyone. I go to a normal public school so to be honest some years we do well in the HSC others not so much. It's all quite variable but I do think I have quite a competitive grade. Everyone in my subjects does try quite hard and we all do our best to work together which is nice.

School ranking wise I'm not too sure I mean I'd say around 200 would be a decent approximation but I do feel our grade is capable of doing better than that as well

That is definitely a good indicator! In terms of your exact school rank, this is a good website for school rankings:

Also, keep in mind that the school you attend has no effect on your HSC exam mark. It is your own performance that determines this mark.

Raw 80s on the final exam should land you in the E4 range.
