Am I only the person memorising only quotes? I was being lazy tbh and didn't feel like memorising much and honestly thought I could make stuff up on the spot but now I feel I'm being over confident.

The only issue I would mention with that is that if you do want to do this, which is definitely fine to do, make sure you don't struggle when it comes to analysis and linking back to the question. Under time-pressuring conditions, the last thing you want is to have a mind blank in the exam.
Memorising only quotes helps prevent developing a cognitive bias towards only your argument. It also makes it so that you are forced to incorporate the ideas of the question into your analysis.
