Hey, i was wondering how HSC state ranks are counted.
Is it purely hsc marks or does it include internals to average the mark

realistically with specific placements, they probs just randomly choose people roughly in some random order cause they don't care and no one will know if they've been robbed or not.

what if like 50 people have a score of 100 on both externals and internals, do school ranks go into consideration?
NESA actually does talk about this: The number of students may be more or less than the number of places due to tied students or not enough students achieving the highest possible band.

For differentiating about state ranks, NESA has a strict procedure:

If two or more students are equal highest on the HSC marks, the Top Achiever places are determined by:
  • Taking an average of each student’s examination mark and assessment mark after alignment to performance bands, each to one decimal place, then for students remaining equal
  • Taking an average of each student’s examination mark and assessment mark before alignment to performance bands, each to two decimal places, then for students remaining equal
  • Where the subject area includes extension courses, using each student’s marks awarded in other courses in the subject area.
However, what happens is exactly all these three are the same is hard to tell. 🤷‍♂️

You can find more by searching up "how are state ranks selected nesa" and going to "HSC merit lists" website (cannot put link yet).
