I don't like Israel, but this is absolutely absurd. Arabs are not indigenous to the levant, and it's extremely rich of them to act like oppressed natives. They have a long history of brutal conquest, for which, unlike Europeans, they have never so much as pretended to feel bad about.
europeans feeling bad about their long history of brutal conquest? LMAOOOO 💀

good, didn't ask u to care. the question of this thread was general to everyone, if u cant stand to see others' opinions then you can leave
i didn't say i "can't stand to see others opinoins"

Im saying whether or not israel or palestine is right is irrelevant to the point im making. Celebrating the actions of hamas is stupid EVEN IF you think israel is evil.

Europeans do not celebrate colonialism - they voluntarily relinquished most of their territories, and today it is treated as bad part of European history. Arabs on the other hand actively celebrate their history of conquest.

And also, Europeans' history of conquest is much more restrained than muslims'. If Muslims ever had the power that Europeans did at their peak, there's no way they wouldn't have acted much, much worse.

kind of hard to even say who the 'indigenous' people of the levant and palestine even are

the kingdom of israel wasn't the first polity to exist there, in reality 'judea' was one of the various caananite / afro-semitic language speaking states in the area

the genetic inputs of the peninsula arabs elsewhere are mixed depending on the places they colonised through islam (which is really an ethnological religious meme promoting arabization) during the muslim expansions in the 7th century

egyptians are only somewhat 'arab' (about 20% or so), mahgrebi people even less so

levantine peoples such as the syrians, 'palestinians' and lebanese also only somewhat arab, but subsumed to an extent the different greater pan arab identity family

really shows you the kinds of games that can be played with the term 'indigenous' but if we're going to connect common ancestry and claim to a particular geographic place (uh oh why are only non-whites the only people who are allowed to do this) doesn't seem unreasonable to me that at the least the palestinians have more of a legitimate ancestral stake in the area than, at least, the ashkenazi/rhine jews who as much european as they were are levantine, while the mizrahi oriential jews (think avi yemeni lol) have probably been in the area about as long as the arabised palestinians have and ancestrally are about as similar to whoever was originally in the area

wat hamas did at that festival was pretty brutal but to be honest not much different from what the israelis do virtually every other week, the only difference is the jews run the media in western states (sometimes) the governments as well, so we have to hear their whining regarding war crimes committed against them far more frequently than the other way around

israel certainly isn't invincible (was nearly defeated by egypt in 1973, little known fact) and most definitely lost to hezbollah in 2006, and hamas goal here if it has one is to lure the IDF into a brutal boots on the ground urban confrontation that they hope will in allies such as hezbollah and the IRGC, it almost definitely won't succeed and israel will win but it will be extremely costly for them

Killing is killing, both sides are in the wrong. We should be grateful we live in a peaceful country without all that mess. People rallying should book a flight over there if they really want to help their home land or whatever. Kind of hypocritical to flaunt your loyalty or support for your home land if you fled that same place to live here. Australia has nothing to do with it and Australians should not be involved.

Of course, but any appeals to indigeneity seem almost entirely opportunistic to me, and if arabs/muslims today were in any position to conquer any parts of Europe, even countries that have never supported israel in any way, they would do so and the resulting attitude would obviously be "haha get rekt git gud skill issue", just as has been the case for their entire history. I'm happy for Israelis to suffer, but it's insane to expect support for people who would rape your sister if given a fraction of a chance, just because they're anti-israel.

i dont give a shit what you think about israel and palestine

it just seems incredibly foolish to celebrate this from a purely practical stand point

it might be satisfying to see people you hate being killed, but overall what good can possibly come from this? Gaza has some hostages, and that's really it. If or when the hostages are killed or released, Israel has no reason not to inflict as much damage on gaza as possible, and if the fighting continues they may just accept the hostages being lost if it means they can destroy or severely weaken hamas.

Unless this escalates into a full blown regional war, gaza are extremely vulnerable and I don't see how there's any path from here to things getting better for them. And even if there is a regional war, it's not like the US is going to sit back and allow Israel to be defeated. All of this is true even if you think Palestine are oppressed natives and israel oppressive colonisers.
this is the only time I have ever agreed with this 40 year old man
