did anyone else do merchant of venice? i went into the exam winging it with nothing but a handful of quotes memorised and i was so caught of guard that the question was so broad 😭 i was so prepared for them to ask about individual experiences/motivations/emotions/language features/paradoxes/literally anything but collective human experiences

ngl that question was beautiful im hoping for at least 19/20

1st para --> power crushed collective human experiences, rebellion ignites enrichment of them by pretty much reclaiming them
2nd para --> specificlaly the power crushed love/sex (😱😳) and then winston/julia recliaming it they get enriched idk i cant really remember what i wrote clearly
3rd para --> seeing how all of the other ppl in oceania had their collective experiences crushed, orwell calls the responder to ensure they are having the richest experiences they can

reading back on my recount sounds dogshit but i promise the essay was good although i kinda rushed the last page
the thing is I thought enrich meant like a positive view on the world
so I mentioned rather than enriching our view it acts as a warning to readers idk if that's right

yea I did TMOV it wasn't that bad in my opinion I think you got caught off guard since you winged it. But it was slightly weird that the question only talked about collective human experience and not both individual and collective

i did 😭 in terms of collective human experiences i wrote about how the venetian christian society have a collective experience that shapes values that are imposed on individuals 💀 and then individuals try to rebel against them

so glad i'm never having to do that play ever again

Anyone who did the crucible?
yes 😳
para 1: collective religious values (specifically goodness) - basically talked about how individuals struggled with maintaining collective values held by their society (abigail & mary)
para 2: collective desire for power & it's repercussions - judge danforth and how he tried to maintain power and then unintentionally & paradoxically empowered abigail 💅
para 3: hysteria - culmination of individual behaviours/motivations leading to collective hysteria etc etc etc, the differing effects hysteria has on individuals (proctor vs abigail)

It was better in real life I swear 😭 I was happy w it. I love writing about Abigail.

'enrich' does have a positive connotation but I think it was subtly hinting to the underlying warning of 1984 where it is a warning of collective behaviour which leads to the totalitarian society, at least thats what I thought. So here's my thought process (probably unique to yours but by no means better) I may have gotten the question components wrong but here is my personal breakdown:
1. "Collective human experience" --> how the collective behaves / Orwell's depiction of blind obedience... yadayada
2. "new ideas about the world" --> (the warning) how we should behave to avoid the 1984 world

Also some food for thought... Human experiences are experienced from some sort of perspective so if the question has an explicit reference to experience, whether thats individual or collective, i think it would've been good to include some reference to perspective and especially since it has to make its way to the reader and enrich ideas for the reader somehow.
thats what I thought anyways, maybe we are too young to understand, maybe our brains haven't developed, maybe our skeletal structure is merely lines of code in a computer program designed to delete antivirus'. Whatever the cause, we are in a paradoxical world, we are in a perpetual state of absurdism, who knows who cares. Now its time to cry and then worship and pray to the other mods.

fuck i didn't say one thing about warning - i just said 'eliot effectively invites his audience to discuss ideas regarding the individual when faced with the collective experiences of blah blah blah'
