I did so bad in my internals (70) and now I feel like I’m getting 70 again. There goes my dream of wanting an e4 in 4u

if my internal mark was 78 and I got 73 raw in the HSC would my internals get lowered?

Your internal mark itself is not directly a factor, but rather your ranking and mark differences - for example if you’re first, you’ll get the highest aligned exam mark from your cohort as your moderated school assessment mark.

Meanwhile, your aligned exam mark is increased from your raw exam mark, I’d say to around low 90s. This is averaged with your moderated school assessment mark to produce your overall HSC mark.

Hence, it depends a lot on your ranking/internal mark differences whether or not your school assessment mark will be lower or higher

my ranking is 2nd but its only a class of 5 will they still take my rank into consideration?

If you mean a 70 raw that likely is an E4 thanks to alignment :)
So you rekon its still possible to get an E4 if I was to get 70 in my internals and lets say 70 raw mark in the exam? The highest in my class for the internals were like 84, then 79, then 70 (me).

its hard to predict exactly because it depends on how far behind first you are and how well the rest of the class goes, but I'd say you have a reasonable chance at an e4 unless your class did worse and you were the highest hsc exam mark in your class in which case your moderated school assessment mark may end up being lower and dragging you down.

it depends on how everyone else did in the exam - based on aligned exam marks alone, you should be looking at a low e4, but your moderated school assessment mark will be very dependent on how everyone else in your class (or cohort if you have multiple classes for mx2) went, so it's hard to say for certain

There's only 4 people in my class including me and the lowest was around 60.

in that case, your school assessment mark depends on the second and third highest exam marks in your class, and to have a good chance at an e4, the average of them would have to be a bit into the 90s aligned.

to be completely honest i doubt that 3rd in a class that small will provide a sufficient school assessment mark to average into an e4 :(

Im predicting around a raw 73 for the trials. The highest in my school are predicting around 87-89. I am rank 20 in my school. Do you guys think I have a chance to get an e4 and if so, what aligned mark do you think it will be

for trials?? imo this years hsc will require around a mid-high 60s raw for an E4 (which is an aligned mark of 90). at a cohort size like yours results become a bit more consistent, so if you can find the number of E4s your school typically receives in ext 2 (check hscninja) then we should be able to provide a rough guide of your moderated school assessment mark and hence your chance of an E4.

We got 21 last year (our cohort did pretty trash that year) but the years before that we averaged around 27 ish

in that case, your chance of an E4 is quite high (assuming you meant 73 raw in the HSC in your earlier post)

Yeah I meant 73 but I am a bit worried they may be extremely harsh and maybe deduct more marks than what I estimated. Also, for the reduction formula question, if you didn't do the u = 2theta sub, how many marks do you think I would lose. Many of the opinion that it would be 2, but others are telling me that they mark based on a bell curve and as a lot of people made the same mistake, they might change the marking criteria.

I would say only 1, it seems as though pretty much nobody got that part though so either way you won’t be disadvantaged much relatively if they do mark harsher

I did not ask for a spare booklet as I was running out of time. I wrote it neat.
