not that it matters now, but it was from 1935 - so pretty much what i did was the first 3 points of collapse of collective security, appeasement and nazi-soviet non-aggression pact + other events in the war
I probably could’ve done that but I also know nothing about Abyssinia or the Spanish civil war soo

what was ur thesis cos the question was a bit weirdly worded, mine was that the power stryggle emerged due to trotsky and stalins differing visions and their individual ambitions for power
Differing visions of the USSR from Stalin, Trotsky, Bulgarian, zinoviev and kamenev and then in my intro I mentioned the effects of Bolshevik consolidation policies such as the NEP and differing visions for how the nep should be handled

I didn't end up finishing the exam, but I wrote very similar things for Russia as you guys! Only got two bodies in, but my points would have been..
1. Stalin having control of the party machine prior to lenins death as general secretary essentially giving him a leg up…what with all the new Bolsheviks that owed their job to him
2. Stalin as well remaining as a grey blur rendering him a blank slate where he can manipulate his political opinions and form alliances to enhance his power. I mentioned Zinoviev and Bukharin, because I could not remember much from his alliance with the right faction

Didn't get to the third point, but I would have mentioned the differing ideologies on economics and interpretations of Marxism. Ie, permanent revolution vs socialism in one country

I forgot the word for a certain Soviet battle tactic (still don’t know) so I made up a name for it ‘shadow fighting’ which was roughly the translation LMAO hopefully markers think I’m talking about something a historian made up and not me

for russia i wrote that competing visions for the party and the ussr were responsible for the power struggle that emerged:

- how differing visions for party (including bureaucratism and party membership) led to a struggle for leadership
- how differing visions for the political policies of the ussr (including interpretations of marxism-leninism, permanent revolution vs socialism in one country) led to a struggle for power
- how differing economic visions (predominantly continuation of the nep vs rapid industrialisation) led to the power struggle
- how differing visions for soviet society (dekulakisation and such) led to the power struggle

IDK i know it’s a simple argument but i think it really answers the question so i’m happy w it

i did the other indochina question but when i was considering answering the anti-war q the only things i could come up with were the social/human, economic/financial strain the war were taking on american population
Yeah I did the same thing. I used a quote from tomsky "more parties may exist... but only provided one party is in power and all the rest in prison", leading into how the divergence of ideological views in stalin and trotsky made conflict impossible to avoid. (In better words). I am actually quite happy with what I wrote in terms of ideas. The problem is the word count. Only 4 pages for the Soviet Union essay...

I found it quite difficult to align ideas with the struggle as the struggle in itself is pretty basic in my opinion. Like how the hell u gonna waffle about something pretty obvious. Maybe I could've put more words but I think I'd be repeating myself. Slightly irritated by myself in that regard.

I feel like some people answered for conflict instead of how lenins death led to conflict. Or maybe they found a way to link one to the other. I, on the other hand, memorising my totalitarian essay during the morning with barely any sleep could not figure that out harhar... I swear they read thru this forum and changed the questions.
