Opinions on Chatswood? Sefton? (less so Tempe, Parra, Cherrybrook Tech)
Opinions on Chatswood? Sefton? (less so Tempe, Parra, Cherrybrook Tech)
bc it's a test? I mean sure academic achievements may matter but I don't think extracurricular would be needed in that. sorry if I seem rude I'm just stating my opinion...
You don't think prior academic performance and extracirriculars matter for the test?
...
thank youFor edutest especially, you want to be doing the practice tests for the years above e.g if ure applying for y8 do the y9 practice tests or even y10. As someone who did the edutest twice for transferring, the vocabulary is inconceivably difficult. The entire english section is so much harder than the practice tests allocated for that grade. However for maths it should be extremely easy unless math is truly your weak point. I would also advise you to read non-fiction books just to enhance your comprehension for the test. Just out of curiosity, what school do you go to?
Ok - I see where your coming from.bc it's a test? I mean sure academic achievements may matter but I don't think extracurricular would be needed in that. sorry if I seem rude I'm just stating my opinion
tbh I rlly want to go to fort Street to anything else yk?As someone in your cohort who transferred from Chatswood to Sydney Boys this year i'd say you should move to schools depending on :
1. what atar you are aiming for
2. the school's proximity.
from my experience at chatswood, Chatswood High actually has very nice facilities and the canteen is stacked as. They also have 2 selective classes "A' and "B" and one gifted and talented class which is often better than the B class. If you are aiming for 90+ i'd say you have a decent shot at chatswood cs ik some of the chatswood kids and theyre by far smarter than kids at sydney boys so thats one id recommend.
Honestly if you really just put in the work next year. e.g get grades up, study ahead, join some clubs and do some competitions and sport you could realistically get into any school apart from the top 20.
Fort Street im pretty sure you only need to write an essay for the testing phase.
Manly is extremely easy but the difficulty might be subjective but i'd say manly has a good rank and is not difficult to get into
My recommendations are Manly 1, Fort St 2, Chatswood 3. Purely based on rankings.
Hope this helps, ask me if you have any other questions
oh I get it. sorry I forgot to take that into account. thanks for the info thoOk - I see where your coming from.
It's just that although your academics and extracirriculars don't affect your test itself, they do SEVERELY, and I mean it affect your potential denial/acceptance into a school. This year, I was downgraded from an acceptance to a reserve just because my report wasn't up to standard, but my extracirriculars and test performance compensated for such. If you were lacking in report and extracirriculars than that may also be a reason for some raised eyebrows and a lower ranking overall.
all goh I get it. sorry I forgot to take that into account. thanks for the info tho
(~390 rank school) Just for context, i'm aiming for mid-90s for my atar (tryna be a lawyer) I live in black town but travel isn't an issue. I have some ec's lined up to start next year as well as comps, not big in sport but i'll see what I can do. My weak spot is math (due to lacking foundations, bad memory ) planning on revising Cambridge textbooks over holidays. Not many quality hard-copy resources except for some abstract reasoning booklets by bonds. Got some e-books to study over holidays (mainly fictional narratives abt murder/mystery by Blake Pierce & Riley Dark). passionate for my clubs too.As someone in your cohort who transferred from Chatswood to Sydney Boys this year i'd say you should move to schools depending on :

Just wondering if you’ve gotten any movement around Year 8 for next year please?I'm transition leader at my school rn, so I get to be involved with all the enrollment kind of things to see who's coming into the school new, and we have gotten people still accepting places and like rejecting places now even though offers came out nearly a month ago, so it definitely depends on the school.
Probably not - most spots, especially extra classes open up in Year 9/10.Just wondering if you’ve gotten any movement around Year 8 for next year please?
Given this, would you still reccomment Fort Street & Manly > also applied of Penrith last year got mid ~50% dragged down bc abstract reasoning was way off :')(~390 rank school) Just for context, i'm aiming for mid-90s for my atar (tryna be a lawyer) I live in black town but travel isn't an issue. Any good resources for hast abstract reasoning & maths/scienceaw yikes
Fort Street and Manly from what i've heard are usually harder to get into than Penrith. If you got mid 50%, which wouldn't get you into Penrith or even reserve, then you might wanna try upping your score before considering fort street or manly.
tbh the best i can do is probs out of top 50Any good resources for hast abstract reasoning & maths/science

oh finally u back
Congrats on ur girra entry, I have some questions for u. What resources did u use (where can I find those ) and how did u prepare for the exam using those resources, especially for the Maths section in the Hast since i bombed that? Can u also tell me tips n tricks on what to do n not to do in the yr 9 girra exam, especially writing, maths n english cuz Im struggling with those n time management. Ik I'm asking u a lot but I wanna gain a seat using ur help next year, I'm sorry for bothering you and pls do answer me in detail ( tysm in advance )guys i got into girra
get some random preparation books from five senses (found in north rocks and seven hills) for the year youre trying for entry to, which in your case is year 9. also go on the acer website and purchase the hast past papers, those helped me asw. as for the math section, i recommend a specific author called yvonne kang, he does educational books for year 6 selective, but thatll still help because u can time yourself at half the normal time for a normal year 6 test in the book to get ready for year 9 hast, thats what i did. so for example, for a normal year 9 hast practice test for 30 questions you would time yourself 35 minutes (for example) but for the year 6 selective test you would time yourself at 17-20 mins. this will also help with time management, and i was actually surprised to find out that year 6 selective and year 9 hast are not actually that far apart, they both have the same foundational math topics that structure the math test. also, be ready for 1-3 science questions in the math test, these wont be completely science but theyll be a combination of math+science and those are actually harder than the normal math question in the test. i didnt particular study for the science questions because nobody knew they were gonna be there, but even if you get them wrong its not that devastating cos its only 1-3 questions and most of it should be the same math topic. as for tips and tricks, farm as many extracurricular+external academic achievements as you can. stuff like premiers reading challenge, premiers sporting challenge, math olympiad and australian math comp will all help, as long as you get a cert for it. as for tips and tricks for the exam itself, just dont stress too much and think casually about it, as if youre doing a normal school test, itll help you a lot. if im being honest, in the break that separates the 4 exams me and my friends just ran around the school calling each other names and finding the toilets. sounds really immature, but at the end it helped us to cool down, recharge and calm ourselves down before the next part of hast. obv this is just an example, so just do whatever helps you to calm yourselves down. this will also help in time management. as for writing, most of the prompts are pretty basic, theyre just looking for students who would have a unique+creative perspective on the text compared to normal students, but dont stress abt it that much, because you also have to manage ur time a lot in writing so as long as you give a piece that you think is done to the best of your extent it should be fine, just try to sprinkle in some uniqueness and creativity (also imo planning at the start is overrated and a waste of time so if you can learn how to plan as you go that woud be better, but thats up to you). as for english, this would be (imo) the hardest exam out of all. the comprehension questions are abstract, to say the least, and you need to comprehend, understand and attempt each question with a clear mind, as you dont have to manage time as much cos u do get a good amount of time. read back on the text for the slightest bit of clues, because most of the questions youalso, make sure to eat a breakfast with foods that sharpen your brain, like fruits (u can google foods like this). also you can take these foods in break. also, i realised that you have the same hsc year as me, and year 9 entry has already ended, so do you mean year 10 entry? if so, replace all the year 9s in this text with year 10 lmao (god i yap too much)Congrats on ur girra entry, I have some questions for u.
