Hi Guys,

I'm curious how hard it is to get into early entry programs. I understand that UNSW early entry pathways might be quite rigorous and competitive, but how about maquarie university. Do you need very good grades or does B grades good enough. Further could I get early entry without much extracurricular's, I only have a part time job I am working at.

Thanks

macquarie hands out early entry like those people outside the train station handing out worthless ubereats and doordash vouchers. you can sit up in the hsc and take a dump on your english advanced paper, urinate on your maths standard paper and waltz out with a number barely resembling an atar and theyll still offer you entry to their extremely prestigious and competitive tertiary academic institution for your juicy course fees. don't worry about it.

Hi thanks a lot for the input, definitely reassuring to hear, however I was wondering if anyone has had any first hand or secondary experience of receiving early entry from Macquarie on how competitive it is or the likeness of succeeding or best pathway to receive early entry.

hey so I got early entry into unsw, macq, western, acu, and uts and let me tell you, it is so easy. I got only got two A's and the rest were B's in my overall prelim course report and i absolutely BOMBED my prelim exams.

I got early entry into macq through the Leaders and Achievers scheme. I'm not entirely sure about first round offers bc I applied in the second round. Offers for second round were released before the HSC exams began, and it was conditional only that you complete year 12 and the HSC. I've seen people get early entry to macq with B's and a couple C's so you'll probably be fine. Just make sure to apply in time and keep in mind that depending on the popularity of the course you want, early offers for a course may be limited in round 2. (Hopefully this gives you an answer, if you have any other questions feel free to ask lol)

Like @teaR__ I collected early entries lol (Maq, WSU, UTS, ANU, ACU, Newcastle) ~ So don't limit yourself to maq uni. I got multiple maq offers (law, clinical sci, med sci) through the leaders and achievers scheme and Schools recommendation scheme. Depending on the course u want, ik ppl that got offers with a C-D average on their prelim report. Maq uni especially, is rly generous in giving out early entry. If grades aren't your strong suite, your best bet is going for the SRS- u don't have to submit an application, UAC automatically does it for u based on preferences. Js be active in school as much as u can i:e, musical, service, teachers aid, sport, leadership etc.

Hey thanks guys, it's definitely comforting to hear as I have been told at a young age that a high atar is the only way into uni. One thing, if I want to apply for the Macquarie leaders and achievers program but I don't really have any leadership roles except for a part time job, yeah so im not sure what to do about that. My reports definitely not the best after I bombed my prelims, 1 A and a couple B's, I got D's in English extension but I dropped it this year so I hope it's fine, is that fine to get an offer?

Thanks.

You have plenty of time to build some things up (I think applications close or open for rounds 1 and 2 in July and August respectively?~Correct me if I'm wrong). If you don't mind me asking, what course are you interested in for the maq leaders and achievers program? For something like Law, I'd say you have a 60-70% chance with your grades, but they're not as bad as you think (if I assume your averaging a B grade rn?). For most other courses, I think you can comfortably get an offer. Since applications close later in the year, I recommend having a read through the program requirements/eligible activities and doing as many as you can in the time being. If you dont get an offer (which I doubt), theres also the schools recommendation scheme (which maq also accepts) which focuses on a mix of academics and activities based on your overall performance in school including year 12 (I think thats what the SRS roughly was).

tldr, dont stress too much. You can get an offer but if u dont, its not the end of the world.

Getting early entry is the hardest thing you will ever do in your life. It is the insurmountable mountain that only the cream of the crop can manage to scale. Of course, I managed to get early entry to Harvard and am now currently an admissions officer so if you need any help I am offering my professional services for $500 USD per hour, cheapest rates you'll see going around!

No worries, and like @rh_06 said you definitely enough time to build up your hours in leadership roles. I have a couple of friends that were in the same situation and they took up volunteering in places like aged care, food banks, and charities, even volunteering events at our school, and I have one who applied with carer responsibilities for her younger brother. Just take a look at the activity examples and do as many as you can. You already have one eligible activity (your job) so maybe find one that you find yourself sticking to and do that until you apply.

Don't stress too much about it and do your best. However, make sure you're not burning yourself out and that you focus mainly on your studies rather than trying to build up hours for this.
