Well given you are doing comp sci courses, you want something that you can code on any time during uni, or if your uni offers it (for example, UNSW does) then you can use computers at uni which allow you to freely code any time you want. Also, for maths courses, I can imagine using a tablet...

Yeah there have been stories of people who have delayed graduation due to being unable to find paid work. I think it does need to be paid in a sense (not necessarily full-time payment though).

Also with different universities, I would say the difference comes down to content covered in courses and resources/laboratories/equipment available.

From what I've heard, there are more opportunities with civil. However, I encourage you to consider what you actually like more. In terms of content, civil and architecture are quite different. It would be good if you decide on what you like more instead. Also, I think UNSW and USyd provide...

You could also do this with a trolley attached to a mass that is hanging off an edge. Then you let go of the mass and it falls to the ground, dragging the trolley with it. Maybe at the edge of the table you could have a barrier. On a slight tangent, which may be helpful information to others...
