You shouldn't doubt your own capabilities hahahaha. I completely understand where your coming from as I have experienced it first hand, too. However, there's a part of me that thinks that those who go to highly prestigious schools have every right to act that way: it's as if they're bragging...

I don't get why going to a selective school would make you hate it. Personally, I quite enjoy socialising with people that share the same academically competitive mentality as I.

Hun, you should do what you think is right. If your parents don't allow it you have to convince them - it's your education, your life and your future. Choose what you enjoy and do what upholds your sense of self and morals and that goes with everything. I hope you'll be able to overcome it :)...
