I hate to say this but.. you use quite a bit of discrete maths in computing. :) Usually you can google it though, you don't need to know things like formulas back to front.

I'd write out pros and cons, but... lazy. :) I'd say mp3 player because it usually has: a memory stick/card which can be used to hold documents as well as music, there's more choice as to what brand you can buy, and you don't need to fiddle with discs (unless it's a cd/mp3 disc thing)...
