    READ ME: Science degree FAQs

I don't know why everyone is asking about combined advanced science degree. It makes NO DIFFERENCE at the end if you don't do Honours for the Advanced Science part of your degree. This means you will need to add an extra year onto your combined degree by taking one year research in Science. Is...

    Eligibility for doing ESL

Airie, if you are comfortable and doing well English Advanced, then stay in it. It will require a little bit more work than ESL because you need to learn some extra prescribed texts. You CANNOT do ESL if, by the time you enter the course, you have been in Australia for more than 5 years. Of...

    Essay Intro..

If you are unsure how to start, you should start defining what "Journey" is, more specifically, what "Physical Journey" is. The responders must know what you're talking about. Next, you should introduce your prescribed and supplementary texts and briefly explain how they are relevant to physical...

B science or B med science?

I am not talking about BIOC2201... I am talking about BIOC2101. He didn't taught us the plant biochemistry section. You are talking about the plant biotech section in 2201... Obviously you were the one not listening.

    psychology questions~

I think Psyc A is more social psyc, Psyc B is more biological. Psyc can be sometimes Art-like. But it is a science. There are different areas of psyc when you get to higher level courses. For jobs, look around the UNSW Handbook for psyc.

    math1031

Are you talking about the 6 uoc maths in first year for the science part of your degree? If it is, it didn't specify which one, and since for a PYSC major, there is also no mention of you needing to do maths. I guess you can choose whatever maths you want.

    math1031

If the lowest you can do is MATH1131 according to the requirement of your degree (from the Handbook), then you can't do anything lower. They won't let you graduate unless you have completed all the requirement of your degree, including enrolling in all correct subjects. You can try to catch...

    Optom Semester 2 timetableing

The only reason you are allowed to enrol is because of the permitted clash, which means that there is another lecture stream (for PSYC) at night (6 pm I think). Normally you won't be able to enrol.

    Q's regarding TIMETABLE FORMATION

B science or B med science?

You mean whichever is better they take into account? But then again, I wouldn't trust Ian McFarlane :D He said he won't put exam questions from his section in the Biochemistry final but it turned out there were TWO questions on his stuff. >.<

B science or B med science?

If you want to get into Optom, you should do B Science majoring in Vision Science and transfer after first year. I am guessing you will need at least 80+ average to have a shot at Optometry.

    Difference between bscience + b sci/b arts

Actually, you can do Arts unit in B Science, as a MINOR. The only difference is B Sc/BA is 4 year, allow you to do 1 year extra worth of courses. B Sc is 3 years. In both degrees, you cannot do more than 24 uoc per session (that's why you can't add one of your S2 subjects.

To major in Medical Microbiology and Immunology, all you need to do is BIOS1201/1101, CHEM1101/1121, One of MATH1031 OR 1041, and MICR2201, 2011, 3041, 3051, and one of 3061 or 3081. Just check the handbook for this major to be sure. Right now, all you need to worry about is to enrol in BIOS...

    Question about Science/Education

You can major in any area of Science in your B Science part. It's just like a normal B Science degree as long as you do the core subjects and complete the requirement for that major. You can major in Chem or Physics. What seems to be the problem?

    Meiosis - Somebody HELP!

Both divisions are equally important. Non-disjunction occuring in any one of the steps will result in an abnormal gamate formation. e.g. extra chromosome or missing chromosome.

    Meiosis - Somebody HELP!

Just be careful of the terminology. It's not "8" chromosomes, rather it is 4 chromosomes, each with 2 attached chromatids (as a result of duplication). well I just don't think you should use "mitosis" when explanation meiosis. The two resulting daughter cells after the first division are...
